Welcome to the club bub.
They allways want but NEVER pay.
Over the years I've had dozens of book cover request. Half a dozen magazine request,
hell, I even had some images in an HBO special on CG art.
But when you ask about $$$......................
You wonder why ppl make CG porn, cause it's about the only thing that actually (sometimes) pays CASH!
The History Channel (or maybe it was PBS) contacted me about some time machine renders I did for a time machine website I ran. That wanted to mention it on their show. I told them it was all fake. Didn't hear back from them. They thought it was real research being done and working equipment that was built.

Yeah I've seen some very questionable programming on the so called "History Channel" that had nothing whatsoever to do with history. They're just another commercial enterprise in the end. God forbid this generation grows up thinking they're learning history from watching that channel.
There are a few good publishers out there that do pay for your work. I do cover art for two of them, both of them in the USA, the money's not great and I couldn't do it as a career on what they pay, but the thrill of seeing my art on a book in a local bookshop more than makes up for that..for me anyway..!
Injustice will be avenged.

The Military Channel recently aired a show about Nazi UFOs. I watched it since I'm currently modeling a Nazi UFO (what are the chances?!) and sure enough they showed a render or two from a web site about them that are 3DS Max in nature. I got a chuckle out of it. The end credits said the show was made by Discovery Channel. Now I know why I stopped watching that channel long ago. They pass it off as being real. At least my render of a Nazi UFO will be the most awesome-ist real render to date (if I could just hurry up and finish it).

I've done renders for documentary DVD covers and CD covers sold in museums to raise money. It is neat to see. Who knows. Maybe I'll end up doing a Nazi UFO DVD cover.

Unfortunately there are people who are naive enough to be flattered to have their stuff appear in mainstream media - so flattered (and so naive) that the 'glory' is reward enough.
This holds true in most branches of the arts.

I've done book covers - but never with Poser - and always been paid for the work. That said, I always had people bugging me to do free work, telling me the publicity would be good for me.
I always tell 'em money does me more good.

I would like to do paid work but I live in a country where the population is just over 300.000. Are there any publishing sites you know of that I could send a portfolio to? There is little to no demand for my kind of work in my area so I'd have to look abroad for work. Not only could I use the money but I could do with a challenge to push me further in my artwork.
Every once and a while someone posts here on Rendo looking for an artist. I've picked up 4-5 gigs just responding to those requests, and some have led to repeat business. I also got a couple of gigs based on things I posted at that other "naughty" site that begins with "Render." Always had good experiences. The bottom line is, you've got to a) get your work out there and b) ASK for the work!
Like Sharron says, the money is not something you could live on, but it's nice walking around change.

You can mention Renderotica, you just can't link to it or post the full addy.
Another member (no pun intended) publishes a couple of online comics for adult sites. He says it makes money but not a fortune.

Quote - LOL! Nice? You should have heard the CAPSLOCK SCREAMING that ensued after I sent them that link. Apparently I was an awful person for being so rude to them!
Good old Harlan! He grew up in the next town over from where I grew up, although he was long gone by my time. He said it was rough for him there because of anti-Semitism...

The Wisdom of bagginsbill:
"Oh - the manual says that? I have never read the manual - this must be why."Yup, online pay sites for por.. oops, erotic art , are making enough money that they dont argue much about pay. Its not great money but some dont demand great quality either.
I have done a few book covers which I got paid for yay but they were not used for the actual book, just some concept art.
There was an archived chat at Artzone with some sources for commercial work. Mainly I think landscapes and posters but it all pays something.
Yeah, I had a few requests for one or two of my images, no pay.
I just hit the del key...lol.
Same with my writing, requests for me to allow publishing in an e-book or short story mag but no copies, no pay.
Oh well, they also went to the trash bin. roflmao!!!
I did allow one or two short stories to be published in an e-mag once but only for a specified time.
Let me introduce you to my multiple personalities. :)

Oh I love that one! I did a professional website for a strip club back in the 90's. I got paid with a VIP membership and free drinks! Of course I spent hella lot more than I made tipping the dancers! ROTFLMAO!
Oh! And it didn't bring in a single new customer for my web business!

Well a book credit anyway. Someone wanted my Lost In Space renders for their book project but when I asked if they were going to pay or give me a free copy of the book they said no, but would I do more work on my Poser Robinsons to make them better. I told them to go ask Harlan!
