Subject: OT: pleased with Dell

I realize others may have had different experiences with Dell, but I'm very pleased with their service here in the Netherlands. I've had some problems with my Dell laptop screen lately and I phoned support. I explained the problem and they had me check run some diagnostics. Turned out that something was wrong with my screen, but also with my hard drive.

They gave me advice on how to back everything and told me they would come to fix it. followed the advice and 3 days later a guy came to my home and replaced the hard drive and the complete screen.

Normally I hate it when I need to back up everything and have to reinstall everything, but with the advice they gave it took me about 3 hours to get everything back up and running again.

I'm using XP. They pointed me to Ntbackup which is on the XP CD (which is in the ValueAdd/Msft/Ntbackup folder. It backed up my complete system as is and once the new hard drive was placed, I just could revert to that backup without a problem and without reinstalling all of my software.

I'm pleased..... OK, I couldn't use the laptop for 4 days, but there's other things in life that can be done when you don't have a computer to use whenever you like. But they fixed everything beautifully :-)

Due to the childish TOS changes, I'm not allowed to link to my other products outside of Rendo anymore :(

Food for thought.....

At my former work, we had Dell computers. The computers were so-so (well you get what you pay for and Dell has both expensive and inexpensive models) - but their service was top notch!

Many people do not like Dell. Personally, I have two Dell desktops and I have not had any knock on wood problems with either.  In our household I will always buy a Dell or Toshiba. Toshiba because my husband's laptop lived through things you wouldn't believe when he was in the US marines. :)

DELL with 3-year warranty is great.  They ship out the new part and you return the bad one.  They pay for shipping.

Same here. I got a defective monitor, and they replaced it within 3 days, no charge for shipping either way. Plus, I just found out that my software has another year on the warranty, and the hardware 2 more years. I thought they'd both run out last year!
