Downloading Windows and Linux versions, and have downloaded the export_obj.py file, since the one inbuilt is reported to be broken.

I'm working with the 2.53 beta right now. I'd much rather have a stable release than a beta, so I can't say I'm too excited.

It is better to do one thing well, than to do many things and excel at nothing.

Three small projects with 2.54 (self-compiled SVN version)  in Ubuntu Linux done, no crashes and no bugs found so far. Probably I'm too n00b to make anything complicated enough.

Basic modeling, UV mapping and rendering works. Some small animations work also, but I haven't tried anything advanced...

Oh, and sculpting just rocks!

Quote - have downloaded the export_obj.py file, since the one inbuilt is reported to be broken.

It was reported to be broken in 2.53. Apparently 2.54 works out of the box.

Bye!!!

I ask for apologies. In some cases it works out of the box, otherwise you need to download all the 3 .py files from the sources to get the really working version (why didn't they put the fix in 2.54 before releasing, as this bug was known before beta?????)
