Subject: Confused, new to Vue and their store/s

Cimaira ( ) posted Sun, 03 October 2010 at 10:11 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 5:26 PM

I own a copy of Vue 7 Pro Studio, I've never loaded it onto my machine, never registered it.   I know, I'm crazy, just overlook that part, lol.

I purchased the Vue 7 from e-onsoftware. I now want to upgrade to Vue 8 Studio. I also want to purchase the Ecopainter and Skin Vue add ons.  Skin Vue comes from Cornucopia3D, I think. Those sites are very confusing to me.  So, I guess my question is...do I have to purchase Vue 8 & Ecopainter from e-on software, since they at least have a record of me purchasing Vue 7, and then go over to Cornucopia3D to purchase Skin vue? Are these the same sites?

I also have another question, I know that Vue Frontier says it will import static Poser/Daz characters with no problem, will Vue 8 Studio do the same? Frontier also comes with Skin Vue, V8 Studio does not. So, is the importer in Vue 8 or something else I have to purchase?

I warned you I was new to all this, and I know these are probably dumb questions to some of you, but please help me out. I'd really like to change my software of choice to Vue.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice you can offer.

You can buy an upgrade to Vue 8 from Eon and you can get the eco painter addon from Cornucopia if you wish http://www.cornucopia3d.com/purchase.php?item_id=7538  along with any other addons or content that you may want.  Your account with Cornucopia will be tied into your E-on account.  There's also quite a few freebies there too

You can see a comparison between Studio and Frontier here   http://www.e-onsoftware.com/products/vue/vue_8_studio/index.php?page=14&BaseProduct=Vue 8 Studio (you may have to copy/paste as the '8 studio' part has not attached to the link).  The answer to your import question is yes, Studio will import from Poser

It's really not such a scary place once you've been there a few times. [

Hi Gill, thanks for the info.
So the two are tied together.  I tried to register my Vue 7 without installing...no go, I need an installation code apparently, lol. Oh well. I guess I'll just install and register, so I can get V8 complete. I dont use Poser, I use Daz Studio, will  Vue Studio import from Daz Studio??

I just wanted to make sure before buying an upgrade to a product I havent even used yet, (re: first post -yes, I know I'm crazy) lol

Daz import is done through the Collada file format. You export from D/S in Collada, and import that Collada file in Vue.
And yes, you need to install Vue 7 to get an installation code, so you can register it at e-on's. Once it's done, you can upgrade to Vue 8 from e-on's site, and then buy modules for Vue 8 at Cornucopia.
If you decide to buy Vue 8 Complete, there will be no need for modules, they are all included in Complete.
You'll still need to buy SkinVue, though.

Vue will only import Poser (psr) files directly.  That goes for any version. But all you need to do in DAZ is export the character (or scene) as a .OBJ and import that into Vue.  A tip for importing from DAZ is you may get repeatedly asked to locate texture files so simply add your DAZ texture library to your material libaries inVue and you can locate them all with ease.

Hello Bruno 😄 X posted!

Seems you know more about DAZ than me but that's not difficult as I've never used it !

Hey, Gill!
I must've used it, once...!

Cimaira ( ) posted Sun, 03 October 2010 at 12:35 PM

Thank you  thank you!!
This helps a lot!  I'm going to install Vue 7 so I can get the upgrade, I think I'll stick with Vue 8 Studio, since I can buy the ecopainter and skin vue and come out spending a lot less dollars, Vue Complete seems to be more than I need at the moment :)
Again thank you so much Gill and Bruno for your replies. I just love helpful people :)

Hi Cimaira!

If you need some pointers regarding how to move things from DAZ Studio to Vue, check out my tutorial "DAZ Studio to VUE". You can find the link in  the tutorial section here at Renderiosity. It's a PDF file located at ShareCG.
I prefer to use .OBJ export in most cases and use Collada only if I need to pose the figure in Vue. The tutorial also explains how to improve the materials and how to avoid problems with missing textures.

Ciao

Thanks TD, I'll check that out.
I did install Vue7 and I have to say, it's lots of fun :)
There are a couple of things that are frustrating me, but I guess I'll RTDM before I go asking questions, lol.
I'm off to find that tut now  :)
Thanks again!

Good idea! I love their tuts.
I am now trying to figure out how to get content into Vue, I've also started collecting "stuff" lol. I am a collector by nature. I grabbed several of your items from the Free Stuff here at Renderosity.. Thank you :)

ohhh, thank you!
I have another question, if you dont mind. What is the trick to adding new materials so that they show up when I want to load one, instead of  having to browse to the folder where I have it stored.
The objects I just copied into the objects library, not sure about the materials and atmospheres. But I'm having a blast playing I actually spent most of the day making an image, I may actually post in the gallery, rofl.
