The Motley Fool has a bullish post on Smith Micro stock this week:

Some interesting skinny on the company...  "Cloud Computing"?

So their stock is going up because of their potential involvement in mobile
and "cloud"....  wouldn't that inspire Smith to drop everything that isn't mobile or cloudy?

could computing - that wonderful world of sticking a bit of virtual server on this, or that part of the net. Making various apps run in little bits here and yon...Never knowing exactly what's running where....that kind of cloud computing?...;)

... Smith Micro's not the only one.  PCWorld seem to have more on mobile hardware and apps these days as well; perhaps they should re-brand as PCMobile.

Mobile and Cloudy? Are you suggesting it is about to rain on Poser?

I've always thought that it was really strange that SM bought Poser, instead of some company that specializes in 3D or at least digital art software, and I'd love to know just what it took to get them talking and interested.
Whose idea was it? Was it pitched to them hard or did they simply hear of the pending sale of Poser and look into it? Was there someone in the upper ranks of the Poser world who had a friend who had a friend who knew a guy who knew a guy who knew the SM CEO?
Were they dragged to the Poser table kicking and screaming? Ambivalent or excited?

Better yet, do they really even care about Poser? I know the Poser people who work on it and who have been involved in it and have followed it around for its entire history do care about it, but they probably also keep a suitcase packed for just in case. ;-)

How long will SM keep Poser? I can't help but feel it's inevitable that they will sell it, whether it's doing well or not, unless somehow they make a fortune off it and have a real good reason to keep it - seems to me that SM has far more lucrative interests overall though, and Poser is just one of those things they "also do", like the merchandise at the back of the store that hasn't yet offered any real good reason to get rid of it. ;-)
