Subject: Comment Reply in Galleries

This is probably redundant and you are probably, most likely aware of this, but another improvement suggestion for the site would be a comment reply and reply notification function in the galleries.

Unless I am missing something, there is no way currently for someone to reply to a comment posted on a piece of content so that the person who left the comment (or anyone leaving any comments) to be notified there is a reply. An "opt in" for the commenter to allow to receive reply notifications (for that comment, or all comments) would be nice too.

As it is now, there is no way for someone to receive notification that someone replied to their comment, unless they constantly remember to return to that gallery page, which I am guessing most people don't do.

Hi,

personally, I would dislike such a comment reply functionality for Gallery Images.

I remember this feature request from various 3D/Gallery sites in the past, whereas each decided against it, due to various reasons and for better usability.

  • Image comments should imo be just comments and not lead to discussions under an image. Personal site-mails or a Forum post are much better to explain details and to discuss them in depth, in case of further questions. (Besides of sending a site-mail, I usually edit my image description and add details/information of general interest for further viewers.)

  • I consider browsing multiple pages of comments/forum-posts at Rosity very inconvenient, compared to other sites. E.g.: The pagenumber links at wide Images/Forum-threads are displayed only at the right side, often outside the screen which requires much horizontal scrolling. These pagenumber links should be displayed at the left too. (I already posted an according suggestion here). There seems no option/icon, to jump directly to the last/newest post of a lengthy forum thread? Etc.

In case of implementing Gallery comment replies:

  • Notifications should always be personalized (and not sent to each member whoever commented there).
  • There should be a tree structure for comments/replies (or a convenient partial quoting) for correct context and plausible content flow. Otherwise it gets very confusing. (Imagine over 50 comments with multiple replies slipped inside, referring to details/questions somewhere above and newer comments interfering. Nope, I would not like to re-read all comments/replies again and again, to sort out the possible context/logic.
  • An opt out, as suggested by Sean, would be much appreciated! Am getting already far too many e-mails, not only from Rosity. ;)

Summary:

  • I dislike a Gallery comment reply feature and always would prefer to receive a direct personal site-mail with details/explanations, to which I could directly reply if necessary.
    - A feature to directly create a Site-mail from a specific comment (and automatically quoting it) would imo be much easier to implement and cause much less traffic/confusion.
