Subject: Poser 2010 compatibility with .mt5 material files?

Hi all,

Have any of you heard of a problem getting older material files to load in Poser 2010?  I just received this email from a customer:

"I just purchased your EnvPanorama to use as a reflection map for ray traced chrome, etc. I'm using Poser Pro 2010 with the latest update installed. I'm on an Intel MacBook Pro with 4 Gigs of memory and the latest version of OS X.

I loaded up the runtimes and the png images show up in the directories. The geometry loaded up fine from the Props library, including the default map. Following your instructions in the Read me I went to load up the image maps from the Materials Library and the files are all there. But when I select the Glenco image (or any of the others) I don't get the add check mark. So I double click the image, but it still doesn't load up. I tried all the same things with each image map. And, yes, I had the EnvPanorama selected when I try to apply the materials.

Then I checked the runtime folder and both the maps and the png's are in the Material Folders in the EnvPanorama folder. "

I don't have Poser 2010 but I haven't heard of any problem like this before, and I'd be suprised if it wasn't compatible with older material files.  Any ideas how to solve this?

The add checkmark is only shown if the user is in the material room. If they are in some other room, particularly the Pose room, an MT5 file cannot be "added" or double clicked because there is no Poser notion of the "currently selected material". Now it is certainly sensible that if a prop is selected and that prop only has one material zone, it should just allow the operation since it's obvious what it should do. But for historical reasons it does not.

However, the user can literally drag the thumbnail of the material over to the pose preview and drop it on the prop. Or any other prop or piece of a prop. They just have to have the mouse pointer clearly over a specific material zone.

In older versions of Poser, the application of materials was not even offered unless the user was in the material room. It is a new feature of Poser 8 and Pro 2010 that materials can be reached without first going into the material room. However, only material collections can be simply double clicked onto the current actor. Individual mt5 files must be dragged, or the user must go into the material room and select a target material, the way it has always worked.

I don't have Poser with me (I'm at work) so I cannot give the page number in the documentation that explains all this, but your user should read the Poser manuals. grin

I know we can all just get in any car and, despite reading nothing, we can operate the car. Not so with software. (or airplanes)

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)
