Subject: Arcebus may smell funny, but he's not yet dead.

Hi everybody.

During Thursday (CET) the company that webspace-provided my webspace provider (yeah...) (of which I didn't even know they were just re-sellers) went bankcrupt and obviously was taken off the backbone(s) they were connected too.

This obviously took place from one minute to the next, cause nobody was able to inform their customers, which I just find perfect manners.)

(Of course this happened a few weeks after I prepaid for another year of professional service.)

For me this means:

  • I am not able to access ANY content on my servers by ftp, html, pop/smtp/mail
  • I am ready to seriously hurt somebody

 

For you this means:

  • some of my products will not show pictures for some time

  • my websites are down

 

It does NOT MEAN

  • that support will stop. Just use the sitemail and be a bit patient, please, I am checking in as often as I can. Renderosity already has my interim eMail address.

  • that I'm dead. The funny smell is an indicator that I just need a shower (and some sleep) after trying to at least get those.... people... to hand me over my AUTH codes to transfer my domains to another provider (who is twelve times as expensive, 11 years in business, directly backbone connected.)

First of all:

for your words, thoughts and help offers, all of you, but especially Shawn for being the first.

The two guys that were running the hosting business seem to be on the run - no reactions anymore. I talked to the public prosecutor today, and they "will see what they can do".

Seems that the entire database on my servers is lost - have to do everything again.
(something I already started with, but it will take some time, I fear...)

Anyway - I have my own nameserver account now, where my two new domains are registered. I also have a redundant webserver on the other site of the Earth. So if something like this should happen again in the future, I can just switch. (Except if northern Europe is hit by a comet that breaks all the way through our dirtball and takes the other side with it. Then I would seriously be in trouble, I guess...)

Ah - and I have two totally candy-sweet domain names - could grin all day long about those names:
www.arceb.us and www.arcebusy.com

(not much there, yet, though....)
