Subject: new artist pages = not good

SeanE ( ) posted Sun, 21 November 2010 at 6:54 AM · edited Sat, 30 November 2024 at 12:43 PM

Ok so I read through the tuts first and then went to have a look and try to do something with the setup... and haven't a fracking clue what to do or how to do it!...!

Firstly - what the hell IS an 'element'!!???...? WHERE am I supposed to drag it from and to where???

I find it very confusing to follow the pages when everything shifts and slides all over the place AND the tuts disappear just when you'd like them visible as you try to do a real action to one of these mysterious elements-thingies...

So for the moment I'm going back to classic coke...errr...view on the artists pages.

cheers

Sean

I love this place..but I do agree with you.  This is not one of their better ideas.

I'm thanking God they gave me a link to go back to the regular view...lol

the bad part is that they may have shelled out $50K in billable hours for this.  if it were a freebie for them, then it wouldn't matter, if nobody looks at other peoples' homepages.

Quote - they may have shelled out $50K

O_O

I hope that "K" was a typo!

The idea of having customisable artist pages, with drag-and-drop sections is a good one.

Unfortunately, the way it has been implemented - in terms of features, functionality, and usability - is disappointingly terrible.

no typo, it was Miss Nancy making things up again out of thin air.

no, spec, it's just a guesstimate, as the troll implied.  but they've gotta pay their coders something, or else buy the code from somebody, if it becomes a copyrighted part of bondware.  I was just guessing $100/hr (incl. overhead) and 500 hrs. labour to change it all over, test it, then change it back again or refine it.  I could be wrong.  it may have been something nic did in his off-hours.

I'm the troll? you presented your "guesstimate" as fact.

sorry if calling that out makes me a Troll to you, but you do present things you've pulled out of thin air as fact, things you think are right and have no bearing on reality as fact etc.

so, I'm happy to be your troll... maybe you'll fact check once in a while.

And there was me thinking she was referring to your avatar. :P

Looking at the Bondware site, it does seem $100/hr is about an average rate.

But 500 hours work is wrong.

Well, unless it was literally 500 non-stop sleep deprived hours, that might explain it. :P

Based on normal working hours, 500 hours is over three months, and if what we've got is the result of three months work... nah, it simply can't be.

Really, if it's more than single digit hours of coding, I think I'd be disappointed. :/

yeah, that's how long it would take me

but I agree - there may be some advantages to the new thing - like I can go to somebody's page and re-arrange everything.  I would like it so the friends could be at the top, with bigger thumbs, but these things may take another 100 man-hrs., don't you know

Thank you, Rendo, for ruining our HP's! I cant even load mine anymore while logged in, on IE :( So sadly, wont be using this feature.... but oh well... I dont come here much anyway.

I find these new homepages not good for another reason - I can no longer access my or anyone else's homepage. I keep getting a pop-up grey error box about being unabkle to open the site, then one of those lovely error pages.  Am I the only one experiencing this behaviour?
