Subject: Display driver failure

I just got a new computer built especially for Vue.  It's 64 bit, 12 gig of memory, Asus motherboard.....but my display drivers keep failing, causing it to crash.....the actual message, more or less, is that kernel mode driver version 259.22 has stopped working.....

Can anyone help?

ahem

ALWAYS give exact detials when asking for hardware/bug help! :)

ie

operating system (Xp, Vista or windows 7, 64 bit?)
exact motherboard type
RAm (which you note)
Video card

Such stuff helps to know! :)

Latest nvidia driver is 260.99 for my card, I assume you are talking about Nvidia card? maybe your driver has bugs so get latest one?

really important point for folk to know:

Motherbaords have chipsets, it's vital to update those as WELL (before you update anything else if possible), but, it's sometimes trickier than just updating typical Windows drivers, and if done wrong or they have bugs...ugh...mayem!
So you should always check the manufacturer's website for latest updates

note, BIOS and CHIPSETS are different, don't update BIOS unless ye know what yer doing and appreciate the risks, again though it can fix major problems.

hope that helps :)

I get that problem if I run Vue in Shader4 mode on my GTX460 card. If you are running in Shader4 mode, try switching to "Fixed Hardware pipeline" in graphics options. That works very well for me. I prefer the stability of that mode over the slightly improved visual in Shader 4 mode.

Thanks guys.....

Sorry I wasn't as forthcoming as I should have been with my specs....my friend put it together so I'm not sure about all the answers....it's 64 bit, Asus Sabertooth X58, and the graphics card (is that the same as a video card?) is Galaxy GeForce GTS 450....

And thd777, I bet you're right about changing from shader 4, but I do love the imoproved visuals so I might only change it when a certain scene because especially buggy....

Thanks again!
