Subject: OT: Awful Fan Art

A buddy sent me a link to this site-something to look at whilst Facebook is down...

http://awfulfanart.com/

Some are just plain awful, but some capture essential features or qualities,  and just miss somehow.  It demonstrates how difficult portraiture really is.

However, I think the Col. Sanders on page 11 is just plain awesome!

Oh, I don't know... Team Edward seemed to capture the essence... :tt2:

I don't think they are so awful. Just people with undeveloped art skills.  Some people can't draw beyond stick figures.

I think the Zac Efron one captures him well.

Some of these aren't too bad as far as drawings go. They may look nothing like the celebrity they were trying to draw but they do look like real people.

Others need to have their pencils taken away and introduced to poser

I like the one of Benedict Cumberbatch, a bit abstract, but I like it. The Harry Potter in the comic style were pretty darn good really, especailly the one on the bed. LOL

the brangelina mock-up was my favourite, but I simply must look up pattinson on wikipedia - never heard of him.  however, i daresay "coco" will just be relieved that somebody remembers him 🤣

LOL, sometimes Poser doesn't even work.  There is another website where a lot of the postings are pretty bad (they even admit it).  Jan

I would love to see a gallery of awful Poser renders from over the years! I think bad art is a triumph of the spirit!

I think Hugh Laurie on page 7 is quite good as a caracture, also Morgan Freeman on page 9, and Sylvester Stallone on page 11 captures his "I have an IQ of 5" expression quite well. On page 10, Sarah Palin is perfect!

That Palin picture looks like the photo was just coloured over.

Yeah, I don't get that either. Of course I tend to tune out when that dame's name is mentioned.

A lot of them aren't as bad as the blog seems to think. Some (most) are probably drawn by teenagers, and I certainly couldn't draw anything so that it looked like the intended subject either.

And let's be honest: How many Poser clones are totally spot on? Yes, there's usually a likeness, and somre are pretty good, but... it's amazingly hard to capture a total likeness of a living person - also because people do not look the same in different light conditions - so you can have a great drawing, like one of the Ellen DeGeneres ones, and then compare it with a picture where she's looking totally different - other pose, other lights... That doesn't make the drawing bad, just different from THAT photo.

The Palin one is amazing, though I don't see why anyone would want to draw her L And I'm sure there's a backstory with those pancakes - when it's taken out of context like this it's just odd though :)O
