Subject: Help with Wiki Page

Acadia ( ) posted Thu, 30 December 2010 at 7:56 AM · edited Tue, 26 November 2024 at 5:29 AM

How doI create a new page?

I want to add my runtime organization essay, and I have no idea how to create a brand new page.

I looked at the help section, and TBO it's not every helpful at all!!!  It tells me what to do to edit, but not how to create a new page!

What did you want to call the new page?

I don't know yet.  I just want to know how to create a new page for now.

Usually the simplest way to create a page is to put a reference to it in an existing page (meaning you need to decide on a name for it), and then click on the reference (the link for an undefined page reference is one which will create the page).

Acadia ( ) posted Thu, 30 December 2010 at 1:55 PM

Ugh!!  This thing is so not very user friendly!!

I don't see anything called "Reference"

I clicked on the "Runtime" page and all I see is 2 sentences and 2 links. It only allows me to edit "Links"

So after I clicked on "Edit" I clicked on "Discussion" and that gave me blank typing window, which I am entering my text into.

However, the options for formating suck!!!

Whenever I click "Preview" my paragraphs run into each other. For example:

Item 1

Item 2

Item 3

Item 4

The above becomes Item 1 Item 2 Item 3 Item 4

And instead of single spaced paragraphs with double spaces between them, everything ends up double spaced and impossible to figure out.

I tried using the "No wiki format", but all that does it completely delete any format whatsoever and everything ends up in a single spaced paragraph with everything running together.

How do I keep my single and double spacing? How do I keep my itemized list instead of having it showing on one line?

OMG! Finally!!!

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/rrwiki/index.php/A_Guide_to_Runtime_Organization

The formatting isn't the greatest, because I don't see how to do any special formatting in the text box. But at least it's there!!

Thanks for the help! I managed to create a new page by going to "Runtime" and creating a link to basically nothing,  LOL

Thanks for finding all this out, Acadia - bookmarking as well. Another case of "techie think" trying to be decichered by normal humans... they do have a weird way of doing things, sometimes... 😄

Don't do that "Discussion" thing. All that happens is you end up with a page hidden in the discussion section of a page.  And I know I would neve dream of looking in that tab for anything.

There is a way to create a new page without going to an existing page to make a link. Others have been able to do it. And I need to learn how too because I have several bookmarked threads that I want to create wiki pages for.

Oh! Okay... good point.

I do have a question: is there like a table of contents to all the wiki pages currently on the site? All I get is like the latest 20 and what's hot... I'm probably just overlooking something incredibly obvious...

I don't believe there is, but if you do a search for Poser, it should bring up every page that has that word in it. Or I think you can do an advanced search like that.

LOL. The wiki workflow for making a new page is not "techy". You have to stop thinking of wiki as a personal word processor, and instead think about the psychology of a community. Question: How do you stop people from building duplicate new pages? How do you enforce that a person should do a search before they make a new page, to verify that it has not been done already? Answer: Creating a page is offered only after a failed search.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

A bit cryptic, but the message came through!

Thanks so much!

Brilliant. Why didn't I think of that. {{sigh}} I think the answer is obvious... :blushing: thank you, Laurie...

Knew I should have read the philosophy page first... good approach, really, when you get the pin around it. "Pin" in this case is my tiny mind trying to penetrate FLOSS esoteric philosophy and failing entirely, love it as I may. (Wiki is essentially, FLOSS, right??)

Oh well, back to my celebratory glass - wishing all of you lovelies the very best in the New Year!!!

Duh! I just discovered that you can also create a new page by typing in the link to your desired page into the address bar.

Simply use this link

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/rrwiki/index.php/

And add the name of the page you want to create at the end.....for example:

http://www.renderosity.com/mod/rrwiki/index.php/how_to_create_a_new_page

It will take you to a page, tell you that it doesn't exist, ask you to search, or to "edit the page".  If you pick "Edit", you will be creating the new page.

EDIT:  I added the info on how to create a page to the Help section. I figure it tells you how to "Delete" a page, it should tell you how to actually go about creating one.

Yep...I could have told you that the other day, but it had been awhile since I'd created one and I forgot...lmao

blush

Oh, and stellar idea about adding that to the help page...it doesn't occur to everyone obviously...lol.
