Subject: Poser Pro 2010 Mac - Collada Export Crashes

canary100 ( ) posted Sun, 02 January 2011 at 2:04 AM · edited Mon, 22 July 2024 at 6:36 PM

Well, in almost 7 years I never posted a single thread. My first one.

Trying export Collada from Poser Pro 2010 (original and SR1) crashes Poser...every...single....time.

I was able to do one export the first time. The second time it begun misbehaving where it would "appear" to execute the export but then no file was generated. After the third time....dead on arrival. I even uninstalled and reinstalled from scratch, upgraded to SR1...no luck.

Also, for some reason whenever I export 3ds or obj, I never, ever for as long as I can remember can get the textures to export. In obj I get a mtl file, but the file itself is always empty.

Anybody has this issue, run into the same problem?

I have a feeling this is a Flash issue. I love Poser, but I must admit the fact they use Flash WITHIN the program to run their libraries is bizarre, right down ridiculous.

What's more ridiculous is you have a problem with export and mouth off about Flash which has nothing to do with it and only stirs up more fears over nothing.

You have a feeling this is a Flash issue? Really? How much do your feelings control the way technology actually works, do you suppose?

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

What an arrogant, completely douche bag reply from a complete estranger.

YES, a "professional" program should not rely on such a ever-changing 3rd party "solution" like Flash, which may be ok for browsrers but certainly not ok to be used WITHIN a "professional" program. It is simply lazyness and poor form in the part of Smith Micro and bound to create one problem after another.

And I develop Flash. For 7 years now. AS3 and all.

NORM NUMBER 1 OF ALL FORUM ETIQUETTE: If you you DO NOT have a proper response to the subject at hand DON'T SAY ANYTHING.

You stupid nitwit. Always the "smart ass" thinking every poster here is a 3rd grade teacher using a computer for the first time.

Found the solution: As it turns out it appears it had something to do with the Adobe AIR version, which had been modified by another small app I downloaded unrelated to Poser.

In case anyone runs into this problem, uninstall AIR using the Adobe-provided uninstaller, reinstall from the version that came with the original Poser Pro installer. Make sure you also get rid off the com.SmithMicro.plist files inside your User/Library/Preferences/  which will be rebuilt the next time you start up Poser Pro. Somehow it appears it affects the export. After this the export went flawless.

Sent bug notice to Smith Micro and how I solve it. It only took 9 hours to figure out.

Have a nice 2011.

First and last post ever. Back to "stealth mode" and never open my yap again. God forbid.
