Subject: Problem with Dynamic clothing in P8

Anglu ( ) posted Mon, 24 January 2011 at 12:05 PM · edited Mon, 09 December 2024 at 5:00 AM

Well, I'm quite new to Poser (only used D|S so far) and I want to learn how to use dynamic clothes. I got some, read the tutorial here at rendo (Cute3D, or so it was who wrote it) and followed it step by step. So far no problem, but when I klick on "calculate simulation" it happens: Poser is totally hooked up, stands totally still, reacts to nothing. All I can do then is shut it down "manually".

This happens everytime, no matter which specific item I use or what settings I choose.

Can anyone help me with this? It's quite annoying to see so many beautiful dynamic clothes and not being able to use them although I actually should.

I use the new iMac with OS 10.6.5, 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo...

I can walk you through the steps if you want.  If you have V4, grab one of my items in the freesection, so we can have the same base to work from. :) (Otherwise just use something else, but let me know what)  It's not hard, and I am sure you are just missing some detail that's messing up the simulation.

Propably.

Thank you very much for yout help!

I grabbed the wizard's dress and just istalled it

Ok!

  1. Set up V4 so she is zeroed in the first frame. You can find it as "zero rotations" in the joint editor. Also make sure she is not using morphs in this frame.

  2. Set up the poser and morphs you want her to have some frames ahead, say frame 20.

  3. Load the dress.

  4. Go into the clothroom and select "New Simulation." The default value of frame 1-30 will be fine here. Also, check "Cloth self collision."

  5. Select "Clothify" and then choose the "Fantasy dress" object.

  6. Click the "Collide against" box, and "add/remove" Check "Victoria 4", and all the subsequent boxes should be checked automatically. If you have any other items on her, like hair, jewelry or other clothing, go through the list and make sure they are unchecked for now.

Then set collision offset and collision depth to 0.400.

  1. Click "Calculate Simulation"

Let me know how that goes!

also make sure there is no intersection of cloth and figure this most often is the cause of the simulation hanging

You might as well PAY attention, because you can't afford FREE speech

Squeee, it worked! it worked!

Thank you sooo much!

Now, if I want to use more than one dynamic pieco of clothing, will I just have to clothify all at once or will i need to make a new simulation?

Urm, please, what exactly do you mean with "intersection"? Sorry, I'm no native English speaker, I get things wrong sometimes..

You need to make another cloth simulation for the second item.  Also, make sure that if they interact, to do them in the right order.. For example, if you have a skirt and a top, and you want the top to go over the skirt, you first do the skirt, then you add a simulation for the top, and you make sure to add the skirt to collide with.

With intersect means that the figure shouldn't poke through the cloth when the simulation starts. If it's just by a small amount the cloth sim usually straightens it out though.

Aha, alright. Thanks again!

I'll experiment a bit :-)
