Subject: stop material from animating

fleshoff ( ) posted Mon, 28 February 2011 at 7:59 AM · edited Sat, 17 August 2024 at 9:55 PM

I've got an animated object brought in from poser and mapped a material to it. I used Object mapping but the problem is the material stays in place as the object morphs/animates so it looks like the material is animating. I tried both mapped picture and procedural with same results. I also tried all the object mapping modes: standard through parametric. What am I doing wrong?

I also have disable material animation on and animate material surface is unchecked...this should be so simple but I just can't figure it out.

Here is an example (watch the limbs):

Sorry, you want the material to be animated or non animated?

Not animated. I want it to act like a skin.

If the material is set to "object", it shouldn't move. I think what you see is texture flickering. What render setting did you use? You need at least Broadcast, or your own settings for animations.

I was testing it out on final, but that certainly seems more than just flickering...did you look at the video?

I'll test my own settings out tonight but i doubt that is it.

Hadn't seen there was a link, sorry. It's hard to tell from the video, it's so short, I can see something wrong, but hard to tell what is wrong. To me, it seems the highlights create the pseudo movement, highlights are very strong and bright, but I'm not 100% sure.

OK I just redid it from scratch with the same results. I posted the new file up there and rendered it in broadcast and it isn't the flickering...the texture is moving. I looped it so you guys can see better. Very frustrating as I know it's some simple solution that I'm missing

Ok, I see better now. It looks like the bump map is not following the creature's movement. The texure seems OK, but the bump seems completely wrong, which is odd...

Yes I came to the same conclusion that it's the bump map moving. I'm pretty stuck without a clue.
