Subject: "Please locate x x x" Why?

mikeihde ( ) posted Sun, 19 June 2011 at 1:37 AM · edited Wed, 29 January 2025 at 11:44 PM

I set launch to preferred state but when I launch it always asks me to locate something like make up or eye light. I set preferred state, I save as, I memorize all, I don't know what else to do to have it remember all the parts of the figure.

Help needed.

Thanks

This has absolutely nothing to do with 'Preferred State'. It is caused by files not being in the correct location. Poser files such as pz3 (scene), or cr2 (character), etc, call on other files, and if the files they are calling are not in the expected location in your runtime you will be asked to locate them.

This problem can come about in various ways.

1). If you did not install content correctly.
2). If you moved content after installing it.
3). A faulty installation package (eg zip) installed stuff to the wrong place.
4). A faulty path in an installed file.

Hmm... this seems to happen to me occasionally when I render or open a pz3. It seems, frankly, to be totally random, as it happens despite me not moving things, and despite everything working just fine the last time the scene, figure, prop or whatever was loaded. I have no explanation for it, though I'm not claiming that there isn't one.

The last post shows Windows 7 as the OS in the signature.  Could we possibly seeing UAC interference if Poser is installed into Program Files folder?

lesbentley,

That was it, some things were in the wrong place. Thanks a lot!

Not in my case, since Poser isn't installed into program files on my machine.
