Attached Link: Example of 3D Scene converted to ANIMATED 3D .PDF

Today uploaded a pdf that demonstrates the cool animation effects that can be achieved to develop outdoor enviroments and scenes with Poser and Vue mesh objects. This example is a gold miner operating a sluice in a stream. There are some intersting camera shots including dragon fly cam (Dragon Fly model is credit Boroda, thx!). I also have a version of the 3d animation available in I-Pad / I-Phone. Its all free.  Here is a link to the files at my site directly at

The free Apple I-Pad /I-Phone software can be obtained from the home page at GoldPeeps.com

Let me know what you think.

I have a quad core and it has a helluva time loading that pdf, I can't imagine it even coming close to loading on an iPad.

Sorry for a bad link, the direct link to the PDF works here.

http://goldpeeps.com/goldpeeps_virtual_sluice_gold_fly.pdf

Once its loaded, it should be fine on a I-Phone / I-Pad ung the special viewer (see site, not Acrobat  pdf reader)  I developed it on a Atom based PC, the  Acer Revo 3500 so it should befine on a Quad Core Intel.  But hey, its a complex scene rendered without GPU.

Ok, that link worked better. Have you ever worked with Flash animations? I think that stuff might be right up your alley. If you haven't tried it, you should. I've done Flash for over 8 years and it's a blast. Mix in some 3D elements, and you open up a whole new world of possibilities.

Apple stuff can't play flash.

Let me know what you think.

Sadly can't see the animation (no ipad/iphone). But I like what you've done here, because placing 3D content within PDF's isn't done very often. Plus sometimes it's not an easy thing to do, so kudos to you for figuring it out.

I recall when working at 1 place, we used Adobe Pro, either 6.0 or 7.0. Had to convert meshes to VRML, then to a java applet, then call the applet up with some javascript. Problem was this, like embedding video, left loads of external files which was untidy and made PDF security a bit pointless. The PDF's also took an age to load, so when you gave away the PDF you had to remember to reduce the mesh res and texture sizes.

So I'd certainly be interested to know how you did this.

Pinky - you left the lens cap of your mind on again.

I forgot about THAT limitation... There are tablet PC's out now that can tho, maybe get away from the evil Apple empire and try out something better? lol

I have no ipad or iphone either, I just loaded it on my PC.

Nice animation.  Most gold miners (I knew an avid one) use a gold sifting pan rather than a shovel in a stream though.  But then I'm being picky.  I do really like the animation though. :)

Hi Boni,

The sifters screens (classifiers or grizzly as miners call them) are used to classify material by size which helps the concentration device (sluicebox, highbanker, drywasher what have you) operate more efficiently. However unless you hve a dredge, you must use a shovel to pick up the gravels. Picking up with a sifter from the stream gravels would leave the fine gold behind.  Sometimes a grizzly will be placed at the mouth of the sluice, but the build up of rocks slows the water flow so it needs to be continually cleaned, as does the tailings out the chute.  If a prospector is working bench gravels out of the stream flow he will need to bucket carry teh material to the sluice., In this case, he will often classify the material to reduce his carrying burdon.

In this scene the prospector is sampling the creek (hence the man, and his backpack is still on) so he grabs a few shovels full, tosses it into his sluice, and after about 20 minutes of this will emply the sluice into the gold pan, pan it down and see what color he has from thge stream.  I think I'll add that segment to the scene next.  Since i cant get out into the field this weekenmd (snif).

I really do appreciate your comments and interest.
