I just tried to render Sydney G2 with the new texture I am putting together for my superhero thing, and it rendered as you see below. This isn't the first time this has happened. I attempted a render of Green Lightning and he came out looking like the staypuff marshmello man. I closed the program and shutdown after it did it a few times in a row, and the next time I rendered it, he came out fine.

That tells me something is going on with the program that I should be concerned about.

This happen to anyone with any of the included models when you messed with their skin?

Here are my render settings. Sorry if it's a bit blurry. I will go back in and write them out if you can't read it...

It may help the ppl that might know how to help you if you mentioned your Poser version and service release, and your operating system ;).

I think you use some sort of HDRI lightning, try changing your diffuse color to 127-127-127 and if you use alternative diffuse, use the same 127 settings.

Have you tryed using the Auto Settings on high and render your figure?

I'll see what happens...

No. I never set it all the way to max because of the render time. I have it set as I posted.

As I stated, this happened before. I shut down my machine, and without changing anything I redid the render and it worked just fine...

This looks a lot like the displacement map on the head is set up wrong.

cspear ( ) posted Sat, 20 August 2011 at 5:28 AM

You're assuming that the render will match your 'pre-rendered model' (i.e. what you see in the  preview window).

I suspect the fault lies not with FireFly but with what you're telling it to do.

Check the lighting (too much) and / or your shaders - check for ambient, translucent and over-the-top specular. Better yet, show us a screenshot of your shader setup.

And use shadows.

Looks like you have the figure surrounded by a white sphere and you have IDL enabled. Thus, the lighting is equivalent to the interior of a blast furnace at 10,000 degrees. You'd lose all shadows that way as well.

Get my light meter and render with that. It will show you when you're using too much light.

I am soon getting on a plane, so others can help you with that.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

I figured it out. I had some crazy things going on with displacement and with the lighting. I went back to the drawing board and stayed up all night messing with it. I am close to a final model.

This was rendered straight from Poser 8, no post work. I am almost there...

Thanks, BB. Is that light meter a freebie? I almost have the wife talked into letting me spend money on this hobby, but not quite...

I'll post a larger version of that render when it finishes. It looks better full size (for me that's 1920x1080/1080pix). I like rendering to 16x9 resolution.

Here's the thread, where BB starts explaining his light meter:

It's such a useful must-have ^^

I just reread what you first stated. I didn't have a white sphere around her. The problem was plugging in nodes wrong. I plugged in Displacement/Lighting/toon into both the head and the body. It looked cool in the preview image, so I attempted to render it. The other problem was checking the 'use displacement maps' in Firefly along with waaaay too much light, as you stated. I took her back to zero and came up with the images that I posted earlier. I am happier with the way she is turning out, but I am still not quite where I see her in my head. I got your VSS, but I am not sure how to use it. I don't do much beyond the default stuff already in Poser 8, and just messing with nodes and shaders is giving me what I can handle.

Thanks for your input. I figure anybody who's name appears on the credits for the product I am using is the guy I need to take advice from, even if he talks above my head sometimes...

Good! So I don't know exactly what you're trying to get, but that last render sure looks cool.

If you have more questions, please ask.

I am not sure how to describe it, but basically, I want her to look like the fire is just under her skin, and giving off a very soft glow. I am looking at all the tutorials out there, and I realize Poser probably can't give me what I am after and I'll have to do it all post. Hopefully, though, I'll 'accidentally' get what I am after.

And by the way, I did figure out how to use your VSS, and it is really cool.
