Subject: how to spin in place?

buddhanature28 ( ) posted Sun, 18 September 2011 at 8:40 AM · edited Wed, 12 February 2025 at 3:40 PM

Hi I was wondering if anyone would be able to view this short clip (only a couple of seconds) and give me some feedback re: a quetion I have making my robo bot twirl in one place...This is my first attempt at animation so any feedback is appreciated!

I have checked to make sure her body is set consistently to the same x, y, z, coordinates. I also can't see that her right buttocks, or thigh even changes position. So am confused as to why she slides through the spin rather than pivoting in one place?

The link is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hs3sRNCp8YM

Thanks in advance!

Heather

Make sure that you've used the correct transformation dials :-

Hip X and Z translate should be 0, use Body X and Z to position figure.

Body Y rotate for the "twirling" not Hip Y rotate.

Load a small prop such as the ball from the primatives folder.
Position it at the figure's right toe.
Use the Poser menu Figure > Set Figure Parent to parent the figure to the prop.

Now instead of rotating the figure's body or hip rotate the prop.
The figure will now appear to spin in its right toe.

Set the prop invisible prior to rendering.

Thank you for taking the time to reply! I have already start making the changes and she does stay in place now just have to figure out how to get the same look I was going for! Before I had enable the IK and made use of swinging the hips to drag things into place where I could!

So is there ever a place for moving the hips and what types of situations would that be? Thank you again for your help.

Thank you also Phil C! That is another good idea. However if I wanted to sell the animation down the road as a bvh file would that work as a solution? As I said I still know very little about animation! Though I am enjoying it immensely already! Heather

Phils idea is good and the easiest way to solve the problem. However saving the figure animated pose is not going to wor(probably) since the figure is not moving as far as poser is concerned.

You need to get the body (or hip) center over the toe on which she turns.  You can display the joint editor and the center will appear. do not move the center , just adjust the figures pose. If you use ik to keep the feet in place you can use hip to get the pose right.

this also sounds very useful. And I look forward to putting all this good advice to work. Thank you all! :-) Heather
