Subject: Unable to load Vue Scene in Vue 8 Complete

Since my desktop is in the shop, I decided to try to do some work in Vue 8 Complete on my laptop.  I had installed Vue 8 Complete last year, updated and activated the software.  I copied the content library over form my desktop of all the extra atmosphere, models, and scenes that I'd purchased (not node locked).  Last night when I tried to open scene files of scenes I'd paid for Vue gave me an error that it was unable to open the file.  I searched for the other content I'd purchased in my libraries (trees, buildings, atmospheres) but nothing is showing up in the appropriate panels. Any idea about what could be causing this behavior?

I was under the impression I was able to have Vue on a laptop and desktop computer as long as I was not using it on two computers at the same time.  Is this still true? Or can I only use it on one machine now.  I remember in the past getting a cryptic message about Vue being activated on another machine.

I really don't want to upgrade to Vue 9 right now as my computer cost me much more money than anticipated.  If I did, however, is it possible to run 8 on my laptop and 9 on the desktop without conflicts?  IF I buy Vue 9 will I have to reinstall all my purchaed content for it to work properly, or could the files just be copied over from my old library.

If you only installed the installation file but not the subsequent updates that may be the cause of the problem.  Check your version number.  You can still download the latest updates from E-on

Nope I checked the version number, I  have the most recent version.  I did that before I transfered over my content.

It's okay, thank you for trying Gill.  I hope someone has some idea.  I remember having a similar issue in the past, but I don't know how I resolved it.

In answer to your other questions - I currently run 9 on my desktop and 8 on the lappie as it's old and won't run anything newer!  Before 9 I did have 8 on both computers without any problems.

If I upgrade my Vue, I will probably just leave 8 on my laptop--but I still want it to work properly.  I don't know if uninstalling and reinstalling the program could help.

Are you pointing Vue to the correct place for your libraries ? That could be why your mats/vobs/veg aren't showing for you

One thing you could possibly try with the scene file is to redownload it and install it directly on your lappie.  The can get corrupted sometimes

All the content had been installed to my desktop computer to the Vue directory where the stuff is kept.  I simply elliminated the Vue content folder that the program installed and replaced it with the one with the added content.  All the native Vue items show and are available, it's  just the extra stuff I purchased that isn't.   I don't really know if it's worth going through a lot of work to get this to work on my laptop; when I get my desktop back from the shop I will reinstall Vue to it and be using it primarily for my 3D work

E-on always tells me that if I upgraded to a newer version, I can no longer continue to use an older version on another system.  I click OK to that message each time I upgrade.  I only have one system though.

If that was the case, how do vendors create products compatible with older versions?  Take a look at Corn - even now, some will work in 6 or 7 😉

I don't understand them not wanting people to use older versions, after all we paid for them.  I know Vue won't install if it detects another version on your computer.  It's all very weird they have more weird rules than Carter has liver pills.

I have 7 and 8 running on my computer, no problems. I like some features in the Vue 7 terrain editor, so I usually start my scenes in that before finishing them in 8.

I fixed Vue!  I uninstalled the program and reinstalled it without removing the contents folder.  Then I downloaded and updated.  I found I had the same problem, but then I navigated to my backup content folder and the scenes opened.  I used my Syncronize in Directory Opus to transfer the content files that were not the same in my laptop content folder and Viola! everything works again.  I don't know why it worked, but it did.  Now when I restore Vue to my desktop computer, I will try to follow the same steps.  I can't really afford to upgrade Vue right now and I wanted to have Vue on my laptop for a backup when I'm away and if I my main computer is down for some reason.  I'm very happy now.  Thanks for all your replies.  It also spares me form having to reinstall all my content from scratch again, saving me hours of restoration.
