Subject: Vue 10 render times

offrench ( ) posted Sat, 26 November 2011 at 3:33 PM · edited Mon, 21 October 2024 at 8:46 AM

Having used Vue 10 for some time, I have redone some old benchmarks I had done with Vue 6.

I used the same scene, with the exact same settings.

The results are here:

I was surprised to see such a difference.

Thanks for the information.  I have been holding off on Vue 10 untill I hear more about it like your comments.

I have been disappointed with Vue 9 Infinite because it is slow to load objects and other saved stuff.  It takes to much time between loading something and then being able to move it around in a scene. The render time of simple scenes take what I think to much time to render.

Has Vue 10 improved on this.

I am using a Quad core the same as in your bench marks. I have 8 gig of ram and using XP 64 bit.

I still use Vue 6 alot because it is so much faster doing things than Vue 9.

I am not going to build another computer just to be able to run Vue when other programs run just fine on what I have now.

Vue 10 Infinite runs just fine on my Pentium 4 single core WinXP system.  So did version 9.  Version 7 and 8 were kind of clunky, which didn't work with my ATI Radeon 1650.

iloco, unfortunately, I do not think Vue 10 has improved much on loading times and memory use. It takes a fairly long time to load or save even rather simple scenes with few imported files.

offrench, thanks for your honest opinion of how Vue 10 uses memory and load times.

If e-on can improve the render times it looks to me like they could fix memory leaks or what ever is causing the slow down in using vue if one adds many objects to a scene.

I am in no hurry at all to upgrade to Vue 10. Will continue to watch the forums and get user input on it before I spend that much money for something that needs more improvement in memory use and load time for objects.

It is not much a problem of memory leaks. I have not yet seen Vue 10 eating up all available memory and reducing my PC to a crawl.
But it takes a long time to load and save scenes.

Play with Vue's compression setting on and off to see if your system improves with save/load functions.

To be honest I think Vue 10 is a major improvement on Vue 9....and, there is a noticable improvement between render times.  Those of you who are using below 12GB RAM will be affected by slowdown, especially during rendering and OBJ import operations.

I see that shaunDriscoll is using a Radeon 1650 GC, I did read one time that there were issues with this card regarding its Open GL 2 support......I am also using Dual Radeons [x2 - X-Fire] which I am thinking of swapping out simply to stay on top of the technology. I do know that the Radeon 6000 series supports Open GL 4.....so, I guess I will start looking at those soon..lol

In the past Radeons were not the best for handling 3D graphics/endering progs.

On my single core system, the ATI Radeon 1650 512MB AGP video adapter did not work all that well with Vue 7 Infinite and Vue 8 Infinite.  But it worked great with Vue 9 Infinite and works even better now with Vue 10 Infinite (fractal terrain sculpting/editing is very fast, fluid, and smooth.  As well as eco-painting).  E-on improved their OpenGL implementation.  ATI made no changes to the driver over the years because the adapter is no longer supported.  Fallout 3 (my other app) works great on my system also.

Yes, Radeon GC's come into their own regarding games....Bring On, Skyrim...for a Christmas present.....hopefully!!!
