Subject: Moving point lights around- any good way to SEE them to place them accurately?

Eric Walters ( ) posted Fri, 13 January 2012 at 4:33 PM · edited Thu, 21 November 2024 at 10:03 AM

 Hi

I've been trying to supplement my object based lighting-with point lights- I find the tiny circle icon very hard to see against most backgrounds- anyone have any suggestions?

Making a more visible icon- such as that in many other programs-would be a simple change to implement-I would think. Lightwave, Carrera, Vue, (Daz studio)- all have a very visible and easy icon that is a joy to see in your scene-and move to where you want it to be.

P10? Or a service release? I'll follow up and send the suggestion to Steve Cooper...

Find the obj reference in the PZ3 and replace that obj with one you like or

scale up the icon in the parameters pallete

So is that TTFN or TANSTAAFL?

Just change the display style of the light to silhouette and scale it to a bigger size.

You can change the color so it stands out. Place then change to color you want is another suggestion.

Advanced Light and Camera Guides at RDNA...not free, but they work really well. Also shows depth of field guide and light influence.

I always switch the camera to "top view" when placing point lights, then zoom in / out as necessary to see where the lights are.  Then I move them manually.

You could also try scaling the lights up. You can increase the scale and it doesn't change the light settings.

also in PP 2012 you can set the display to see real shadows and the preview looks quite a lot like what the final render will be, including the shadows.
