So I was searching for a photoshop template for a movie poster when I stumbled on this French language blog.

It shows a collage of movie posters and its design pattern in accordance to the theme of the movie.

Might interest you guys.

Looks to me more like a simple breakdown of the popularity of various Bonds plus a lighthearted commentary on wearing dark glasses on movie posters.

I may be missing something here but I can't find anything relating to design patterns relating to movie themes.

Addendum:

Even the other examples posted don't really offer any analysis into the themes of the movies themselves, rather they're a collection of similar images.

All of which goes to show - to me, at least - movie poster designers are just as derivative and unimaginative as the rest of us. :)

7 Elements of a Great Movie Poster Design

I wonder if the internet, Nteflix etc. signal the doom of the era of great movie posters. Album cover art never seemed the same after the switch to small format CDs.

[grumpy old man]Kids today don't know what they're missing.  When I was a lad, our records used to take up the side of a house and the covers were masterpieces.  Nowadays it's download this and mpthat and bloody hell knows what else with their iPods and whatnots.  Get off my lawn![/grumpy old man]

Yep, I miss the imaginative design work that went into album covers.  What really got my goat with the change to CDs was the artwork was often just shrunk with no thought or care as to the content, so you ended up with lyric sheets in "gnat's cock" size type, which you couldn't even read with an electron microscope.

Then again, considering the lyrical content of most stuff since the millennium it's probably for the best.  :)

Humorous? design theme by movie type in English - wi links to the French site

http://ohnotheydidnt.livejournal.com/64047251.html

I know that Poser has been used for lots of book covers and some album art IIRC. I wonder if any indie films have used it for posters?

One advantage of digital - probably very easy to reverse the song w/o messing up your turntable, so it's easy to hear the hidden message that Tupac is dead. Oh wait, that was on the news.

I've been a fan of Drew Struzan from way back in my Airbrush days. He did alot of the Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Star Wars collage of characters style of posters.
