Subject: Help with my new copy of PoserPro 2012 re external runtimes

rowlando ( ) posted Mon, 19 March 2012 at 2:22 AM · edited Mon, 11 November 2024 at 6:35 AM

I decided to post my question as a new post because it will directly deal with all my questions I hope.

I ready to install my new pp2012 but want to make sure I do not cause any problems.

I already have poser 8 installed and use external runtimes from different internal hard drive.

Do I need to place all my external runtimes in the same drive as PP2012 and if I don't will it cause me extra problems?

Thanks Rowlando

I think you can put them anywhere. I have a python script from semidieu called loadmultiple.py that loads a whole folder full of external runtimes into poser.

but there is also a script in PP2012 that can keep your runtimes added as they were in your previous poser version. check your python menus when u open PP2012.

Love esther

Good morning
You do not mention on MAC or Windows.

However.

PP2012 will install itself as a completely new application, and creating its own runtimes with all the content provided.

It will NOT overwrite what you have already.

Poser8 and PP2012 can live together in harmony.

After the installation and registration, you can link all your existing runtimes in the PP2012  library using the little icon in the top right corner.
Link to the folder that contains the runtime.

You will like the enw library with all its new options and previews.
I never had the need for a 3rd party library as Posers own library does it all.

As Esther mentioned, there is a script within PoserPro2012 which will load all your runtimes.  Currently, I have P7, P8, PP2010 and PP2012 living harmoniously under one computer.

I have my runtimes on another drive with categories of animals, buildings, scenes, mythical etc. They all work fine with Poser2012.

The only runtimes I had problems with 2012 were the runtimes I have on DVD. They won't let Poser write/make a "scene" category like it does on the hard drive ones. I had to re-burn them to another dvd and included the new runtime/libraries/scene. Then they worked like they always have.

Poser2012 support for this DVD problem was excellent and they worked with me till we figured out what was wrong.

Thank you all so much, I have had problems in the past with files not being found by poser and having to track it all through my system to solve.

It was mostly due to my moving a runtime to another drive or the like.

I am installing PP2012 today and looking forwards to all the new things I can learn with it. Then I need to be able to move figures between PP2012- C4D and Marvelous designer.

thanks again
