Subject: posemorphloader - feedback?

colorcurvature ( ) posted Wed, 02 May 2012 at 1:46 PM · edited Tue, 31 December 2024 at 2:14 AM

Hi all,

today I learned that the .obj files PML exports do crash mudbox 2013. I also remember some time ago it was noted that new (but only the new) version of DAZ's hexagon crashed on import, and the issue was reported to DAZ. but I do not know whether it actually got resolved or not (or what the root cause might be).

so maybe some of you also suffer from crashes or other problems (e.g. morph looks bad, has spikes, is distored completely, ...)

I'd love to know how its going.

Kind regards,

col

Not resolved I'm afraid. Don't think that daz knows what the problem is and don't think they'll ever gonna fix it. They've put it on the shelf for the time being and don't know when they goin to pick it up again.

I picked it up recently. I had a hiccup the first time I tried it. I don't do injections - didn't really see the point once I got the morph I wanted in Poser, so I just tie them to Dependent Parameters.  Well, I'm pretty sure this is a Teyon screwed up situation but the first time around, the rotation just wouldn't go away, thus doubling the effect.

HOWEVER, on my second try, it worked perfectly, calling the correction morph without any issue, even after I tied it to a DP.  I've not had any time to explore it beyond that brief play through. Seemed to work well on single body parts. If I get called to do any correction morphs I'll let you know if I run into problems with the PML.

I have only used  Posemorphloader to make morphs in clothing and I noticed that it takes a very long time to import files to Modo 301, particularly the figure I am doing the clothing for - don't remember seeing any crash though.

My solution is to open the figure (not the clothing) in UVMapperPro and just save it again. Then the figure will load much quicker in Modo.

Been using PML with ZBrush 4R3 and Modo 501/601.   No issues to report--it's been working as smooth as silk for me.   (Huge timersaver!)

I use it with ZBrush 4R3 and occasionally with Hex 2.1. I can't recall any issues with that older version.

I used it extensively with Modo 501 and Zbrush 4R2, creating JCMs, and never had any problems.

Hi again, is the hexagon problem really still relevant? I just tried in Hexagon 2.5.1.79 and that looked good. Which version is creating the problem? Ghostman?

lam2 ( ) posted Tue, 12 June 2012 at 6:41 PM

I use PML with Hex 2.1 and have not encountered any problem at all.

...good to see you back, colorcurvature!

Colorcurvature .. Could you try using the Soften Tool or Displacement Brush under the UV & Paint tab.  That is where Hexagon locks up and crashes when I try to use them.  Importing the mesh and doing general face/edge/poly tranlations etc. seem to be ok, just when using the mentioned tools.. CRASH. :D   Also using the 2.5.1.79.

Not that this is a real problem for me, as I also use blender.  But may be for others.

Edit : .. I suppose I should also add that this occurs using PoseMorphExporter 2012.1.34 (Which is the latest version I posess)

lam2 ( ) posted Wed, 13 June 2012 at 1:02 AM

bwldrd, same thing happened to me with 2.5.1.79 as well, thanks for reminding me.

As soon as I start the soften tool, Hex go south and crash.

So, I went back to 2.1 and forgot all about 2.5.1.79.

But I don't have the PoseMorphExporter issue you mentioned.

Can you please try this... open the exported .OBJ in a text editor and add the three lines mtllib DUMMY.mtl g usemtl PreviewDUMMY to the top of the file? (make this the first 3 lines)

bwldrd ( ) posted Wed, 13 June 2012 at 6:10 AM

@Colorcurvature .. Ok, did as instructed and Hexagon went smoothly, no crashes using the tools. :D

@ lam2 .. Sorry if there was a misunderstanding, I'm not having problems with the exporter, just mean that is the version I'm using that produces the .obj files that are causing issues in Hexagon.

colorcurvature, I followed your suggestion and Hex 2.5.1.79 handled the obj file with no problem. I could use the soften tool without crashing. PML version 2012.1.34.

bwldrd, it was my misunderstanding due to my hazy sleepy brain, sorry ;)

Yep, I've noticed that your plugin output in the obj file some lines like this one :

pml marker: hip

Could be great if you change this output to sth more standard like:

g hip

I don't mind too much because i'm using modo (and this proggie handles well these comments), but maybe the loss of information group could be difficult for other 3d progs.

It's awful to use the notepad just after the export lol

Cheers :)

colorcurvature ( ) posted Fri, 15 June 2012 at 11:02 AM

hi, the groups were turned into markers because some modellers split the mesh into parts whenever they see groups. so its basically intended that the exported obj is group free :)

Many thanks Colorcurvature

Ah, I realise now I did look at this before a while back...

I recognise the DVD case! 👍

it looks great, but I'm using OS X, which I see from the manual, isn't supported.

Do you have any plans to look at supporting OS X down the line, or is that too far out of scope currently?

Cheers 😉
