Subject: AutoGroup editor and QuickConform 3 and obj2cr2 questions

aeilkema ( ) posted Wed, 06 June 2012 at 4:06 AM · edited Sun, 17 November 2024 at 9:38 PM

I'm thinking of creating some clothes for the Toon Generation by 3DUniverse. I've created an armor for Chip before, using obj2cr2 in the process. the toonGen is not supported by obj2cr2, I have to do some fiddling myself to get it working, but at the moment I'm not really up to that. Does anyone perhaps have obj2cr2 working with the ToonGen already and can help me out?

Now I've noticed AutoGroup editor and QuickConform 3 in the marketplace. Seem like many people are very content with it and that works better then obj2cr2. I'm not completel clear on how the applications work, but would it be wasy to use this with various figures and does it work the Toon Generation. obj2cr2 works with templates, do AutoGroup editor and QuickConform 3 work with templates also or can you add any figure easily yourself?

Can anyone share some more light on how these 2 apps work?

Food for thought.....

Autogroup create the groups corresponding to the figure in your cloth objet, these groups are read from the figure object and transfered to your cloth object, once this is done you can move polygons form one group to another, usualy you need to fix the hip area between the legs

Quickconform create the CR2 for your cloth from an existing CR2, you select your cloth object, a CR2 belonging to your target figure, usually a DEV CR2 (figure CR2 stripped of the morphs and JCM) and an output CR2 name

A typical workflow is like that

  1. Model your cloth

  2. Create the UVmap

  3. Use Autogroup to create and adjust the group in you cloth

  4. Use QuickConform to create the CR2 for your cloth

Note: the Autogroup and Quickconform work can be done in Poser with the group editor and the Setup room, but these tools are faster to make the work once you know how to use them.

Obj2CR2 work with templates to group your cloth object and use a set of DEV CR2 to make the work of QuickConform, problem is when a figure is not supported, but you can always ring PhilC for any question.

DS 4 pro include all the tools to make the same work too, when you rig in DS you need to choose a Rig of type "Parametric (Legacy)" to make your rig compatible with Poser, the other rig option is for Genesis stuff

I bought both of the applications and they're great. Turning my modeled clothes into conforming clothes was very do-able. the only problem I had was the need of a 3 mouse button, kind of a let down that AutoGroup Editor needs it. I've been using a trackball which only has 2 buttons, so I had to dig up my old mouse with 3 buttons and I really don't like using a mouse...... to much strain on my muscles. But otherwise it works great!
