Subject: Dynamic Dress hovers above shoulders

I am taking a Dynamic Dress, and I scaled it down to fit the Eepo character.  I then am running a cloth simulation, but it consistently hovers above and around the figure with an air gap?  My thought was to turn down the Collide Against -> Collision Offset, but that does not seem to make a difference.  Any ideas on how to make a dynamic dress "fall" on the character closer to the skin?

collision offset and collision depth are the way to go in my opinion.

I've set them from 1/1 both down to like 0.01/0.01, and still exact same results?

I also tried with it parented to her hip, and parented to nothing, and neither of those makes a difference?  Any other thoughts?

Just select the dress and turn down the scale for the dress on the frame you want to render. The whole dress will get smaller and the straps will pull down to the shoulders. You can move it in the xyz if you need to adjust it further.

Other thoughts have to do with other cloth parameters?

Did you set the density to 0?

Did you turn off gravity?

Is air resistance huge?

etc.

Or - did you put the shoulder straps in a constrained group?

Tell what you did.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

Actually, on frame #1, the straps are in the shoulders (the front is in the belly, back in in the buttocks).  When the draping starts, it pops up to that distance you see, then never settles down.  Doesn't seem to matter how many draping frames I use.  I went up to 4 draping frames.

My money is on BB's suggestion about the constrained group.

OK, here are my steps:

  • Load Eepo
  • Load Dress
  • Scale dress using dials, to get it to basically fit eepo (though of course it is in the shoulders, buttock, belly, etc)
  • Set a non-see thru basic material (but that is probably irrelevant)
  • Go to Cloth room
  • New Simulation, 3 drape frames, hit OK
  • Select Long Tunic for cloth object
  • Collide Against: Check box for Eepo (which selects everything under her), Set Collision offset/depth to 0.5, Ignore Head/Hands/Feet, press OK
  • Calculate Simulation

Which Poser version are you using. Poser Pro 2012 has a problem with draping. Try doing the run with 10 frames and cloth draping set to zero.

i bet it is a constrained group also

If it isn't PP2012, my guess also is that it is the constrained group.

Well, not constrained group, it was User Error.  (though imho a little interface/usability issue as well)

In the scene Eepo has on a pair of underpants (another figure called Eepo_Slip that I conformed to her)

When I go to the Cloth Room -> Collide Against -> Add/Remove....and select Eepo, I then press OK.

What happens is that the now active "Current Collision Object" you would expect to be Eepo.  ...but it's not, it is Eepo_Slip...and I was setting the Collision Offset/Depth for Eepo_Slip only, and not Eepo.

So my fault for not paying attention to that field...but when I selected Eepo, and it returned with Eepo_Slip...that's a little unexpected.  :(

...but its working!  :)

thanks for the thoughts/help!  It always helps to talk through it with others!

Here I have the collision depth set at 0.2. I never leave it the default ;). Even at .2 you can see it gaping away a little bit.
