Subject: Completely Uninstall Poser

Paul Francis ( ) posted Sun, 12 August 2012 at 6:01 AM · edited Thu, 26 December 2024 at 8:08 PM

No, I haven't defriended Poser, I want to clean it out completely and start again.

I was a Beta tester for Poser 2012 (actually, a Beta artist would be more accurate!), and had serial number XXX for that.  When I installed the retail version of 2012, with new serial YYY, the installer never asked me for the new serial, but loaded and ran right away with serial XXX on it.  I never thought too much about it until just now when trying to install SR2.1.  The SR seems to be locked to serial YYY, and even a new instance of 2012 installed to a new directory still fires up and runs with serial XXX.

Any ideas how I can completely remove all traces of 2012 from my system so I can re-install it with serial YYY and thus apply SR2.1?

I'm probably wrong about the SR being locked to the serial but I still want to clear it out and start again!

My self-build system - Vista 64 on a Kingston 240GB SSD, Asus P5Q Pro MB, Quad 6600 CPU, 8 Gb Geil Black Dragon Ram, CoolerMaster HAF932 full tower chassis, EVGA Geforce GTX 750Ti Superclocked 2 Gb, Coolermaster V8 CPU aircooler, Enermax 600W Modular PSU, 240Gb SSD, 2Tb HDD storage, 28" LCD monitor, and more red LEDs than a grown man really needs.....I built it in 2008 and can't afford a new one, yet.....!

I don't know the answer to your specific question.

However, you can change the serial number via the 'Help/Personalize...' menu option in Poser. Maybe that is all you need to do, rather than reinstall?

a highly recommended uninstaller program. will scan registry etc to remove all traces of a program.. I use it myself, comes in Free and Pro versions - I use the Free.

Thanks guys - tried Snarly's idea - it accepted, and keeps, the new serial number, but the SR still "can't find a valid instance of Poser etc...".  Khai, revo couldn't find Poser 2012!  I'll keep trying it, though, thanbks for the tip!

Iobit Uninstaller is good too. Make sure you do the advanced uninstall with the Powerful scan after the initial uninstall :) Ya might wanna create a restore point as well ;)

I believe the Sevice release will be checksumming the poserpro.exe and checking it against a list of official releases. Intermediate builds made available through the beta programme won't pass that check. Perhaps this is what is happening in this case?

I'd install the original PP2012 release (build 16510 if I remember correctly), then make sure I had the retail serial in place, then apply the service release.

If you've already done that and it is still not working then I'm stuck!
