Subject: Oxygen at RDNA: are Snarlygribbly and bb on board?

operaguy ( ) posted Fri, 17 August 2012 at 4:34 PM · edited Wed, 20 November 2024 at 9:50 AM

I just noticed a new product at RDNA called "Oxygen" which is basically a skin texture, but more or less bundled with EZSkin which is linked as "free at RDNA." The credit for EZSkin is given as "Gnarlygribbly."

Before I purchase (and I am a supporter of RDNA in general) I'd just like to ask Snarlygribbly and BagginsBill if all is well and things are being done acording to their approval and liking.

From what the copy says, they used EZSkin to set up the textures using custom bump and specular maps. I don't think Snarly had anything to do with it other than he made the script. And I'm sure he approves. I know Snarly. He's a right good guy and very generous ;). And bagginsbill posted the way to set up skin shaders freely, like he does with the bulk of his shaders.

At least these folks gave Snarly and BB credit - lots of folks don't even do that.

I did not see BB credited there.

Just thought I'd pop in to say that Syyd and Traveler spoke to me well in advance of the product launch and checked that what they were doing was ok with me.

Everything has been above board and it's great to see some recognition of the script and BB's shaders in such a high profile new product.

Kudos to Syyd and Traveler I say.

They also gave the script a nice home here:

Anything I post in a forum is a merchant resource, so long as something else is added to justify charging for what I gave away for free.

In this case, if you think the textures are worth $14.98, then pay Syyd for them.

I have to say, though, that I can't see any custom specular or bump. I'm sure it's there, but what I see looks like what I always produce with any color map. In fact, the first promo image shows the distinctive and peculiar pattern of my procedural specular/bump shader, and the full body and hand shots show a satiny un-skinlike smoothness that looks wrong to me.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

ok, thanks for both of you chiming in. I may or may not purchase, personally, but I just wanted to be sure you two have no gripe.

HI Bill, everyone

The EZ Skin 2/Oxygen package delivers a one two punch.  It is a smart package because its emphasis is on a detailed incredibly realistic texture -and- shader technology as opposed to a shader with a smooth color map without any real detail, underneath it..Thats the realtiy of it all.  Oxygen was a difficult map to create because I couldn't just build  a smooth color map, I had to push my own personal boundaries, and pack a skin with fine detail from veins in the hands, across the breast, detailed buttocks and arms, removing photographic sheen and white highlight and push it through EZ Skin to make it a win/win situation.  The result was the production of a really dense skin with nice SSS effects.  Oxygen is not only tailored for EZ skin and the SSS style of shader, but also general poser use, with a host of other shaders.  It will also be optimized for DAZ by Vince Bagna, as we try to reach out to all users, and provide a well thought out, well executed product.   It does indeed come with custom bumps and specularity maps that are the creation of myself and Traveler.

Thanks for you comment!  Thank you both for your advancements in shader technology.  If you have any questions about the set, please feel free to email me or PM me at DNA, or leave a message in our forums :-)

Syyd,

what is The Oxygen Face file?

There is no trace of eye makeup on the head texture? Not even eyeliner?

Thanks

Syyd ( ) posted Fri, 17 August 2012 at 9:15 PM

Nope no eyeliner, no make up.  The oxygen face file is a morphed face file so that you can have the character used in the promo renders :-)
