Subject: Genesis as of right now?

Darkworld ( ) posted Fri, 17 August 2012 at 11:53 PM · edited Sat, 23 November 2024 at 12:04 AM

So I'm too busy and too tired to learn DS, though I'm sure it's fantastic software.  My question is- has anyone tried Genesis in Poser?  Specifically I'm interested in whether "V5" really feels like an upgrade for V4, and if it is worth it to use a watered down version of Genesis in Poser rather than the real deal in DS.

I've heard they are working with Smith Micro to officially get Genesis into Poser, but I'm not really holding my breath.  Basically if I thought I could get some decent functionality as it stands today I might perhaps be tempted to go on a Genesis-content shopping blowout lol.

But before I do that I'd love to hear from some folks who have tried it out, and their thoughts on whether the Genesis-to-Poser experiment is worth pursuing.

Thanks!

You are about to get slammed for not reading the couple thousand posts on this already.

Also, every Genesis thread gets closed by a moderator because of fighting.

Might as well just lock it now.

Renderosity forum reply notifications are wonky. If I read a follow-up in a thread, but I don't myself reply, then notifications no longer happen AT ALL on that thread. So if I seem to be ignoring a question, that's why. (Updated September 23, 2019)

throws a chair

what? ... its gonna turn into a brawl anyway... might as well get it started right!!

in answer to the question... yeah it does kind of work but there are some hoops to jump through.  Its not 100% functional and will require some monkeying around with clothes and such.  Who3d has a thread going on it.  Try a forum search.

I myself just cant see the payoff for the time and money needed to be invested into genesis compared to what I can get out of it in poser

I can say it's great inside DS which really doesn't have that bad of a learning curve any more. They put up tutorials which were enough to get most of it through my thick skull ;-) which is no easy task.

I have been a die hard Poser user up to the last DS release but now it's the other way 'round. That being said I bet they will get Genesis functional in Poser soon too.

Some Genesis tips before the lock.

Genesis is some 17.000 poly and uses DAZ SubD to work right in DS.

Poser has no SubD.

Poser has Smoothing.

Use the free Scenefixer script to set Smoothing to ON and crease angle to 180° for the whole figure.

Render with Smoothing enabled in the render settings.

The rendered results are the same in both apps now.

Exporting Genesis from DS  is tricky at best, @ Hair @ clothing are **************

Do a search for "Genesis" and be prepared for a few weeks of reading.
Please use the search function.

Yep. after using only poser for 8 years it took me about 3 weeks to be fluent in daz4. Its actually better structured for your workflow. Would't have touched dazstudio if not for genesis, now it is my primary app. Weird I know. I do miss posers material rooom, but l am finding the daz shaders just as good and easier to modify because its layed out better. Anyways, just waiting for this thread to get out of hand:)

Once exported from DS4 genesis works fine now in Poser SR3. This service release solved the clothing and hair fitting problem. Is it an improved figure in Poser over gen4?
In some ways: Yes, it bends a bit better and it scales better. In other ways: No. The resolution is too low for closeup renders and the process to get things for genesis into poser is very tedious.

I totally disagree about DS4 having a better workflow or being easy to use. It lacks essential features, is pretty unstable, not backward compatible at all and its handling of plugins is a mess and Posers render engine is completely geared toward using it in Poser unlike Studios which needs updates from another party

Had to get that last part in to counter the DS commercials

All has been said that needs to be said.

Use the search function or start here: http://www.renderosity.com/mod/forumpro/showthread.php?thread_id=2851325

I really am not in the mood to moderate yet another thread fighting this fight.

PLEASE DON'T POST TO THIS THREAD.

One other thing that was left unsaid, was that if you are too busy and tired to learn DS, odds are you are also too busy to learn how to get genesis to work in poser, or to learn how to work around its issues. Its not a small task, and does require some expertise.

It mostly works but still has some issues, but its a LOT of advanced work to use, when there are already a ton of figures that work fine in poser without issues.

Use the link basicwiz provided if you still have to have genesis so badly that its worth all the hassle.

Way too many people take way too many things way too seriously.

Yep, that thread has answered all my questions.  For me V4 is still the way to go, but it will be interesting to see how Genesis develops in the future.

Thanks again for the tips!

The only comment I have is that, If you have money for a blow out then My Michelle might be worth a look, that is where any money I had spare for the hobby would go.

With that said I am off before this get locked like all the other threads on the same subject.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

There are some- Cath Harder's Mec4D characters (Neanderthal) that I'd love to use to full advantage. My curiousity has to do with the future effects SR3's improvements-and plug in functionality might have going forward-in terms of Genesis in Poser.
