Subject: Explosion shader?

Has anybody come up with a Poser material shader for creating an explosion effect?

A sphere could be distorted into spiked object by pulling out vertices. A shader that could provide the dramatic colors of an explosion would help turn that object into something that approximates an explosion that could be enhanced in a photo editing program.

Along those lines, but more as a bomb blast that has more of a spherical eruption. Those are a specific shape using a transparency to get the effect.

philc did an explosion script IIRC.

Animated displacement map.

The transparency starts at 0, goes to 1 at the second frame, then stays there (i.e. there's a keyframe on frame 2.)

The displacement rises linearly from 0 to 1.

Hey Ockham! That is a nifty idea!

How about modulating the spot node to get a bit of randomness into the explosion?

(I'll try that tonight...)

Here is an explosion effect (scroll to bottom of page) but done in GIMP.  Maybe you can map the image to two planes and have them intersect each other like this lightsaber blade.

I like what Ockham came up with. I'll want to play around with colors and transparencies, but he's come up with a really nice effect.

I had to do a search for PhilC's script and it seems to be a mesh "explosion" that pulls apart the components of a mesh assembly. Since I was looking for something to blow up spaceships, this might have some application combined with other effects.

Acrionix's 2D tutorial is another direction. That made me look for Photoshop tutorials and below are a few interesting ones.

Have you tried the free explosion script by the Mighty Ockham? (Check out the link in his sig.)
