Subject: EZSkin v2, M3, Not going on Skin Body - Help

bloodsong ( ) posted Sun, 02 September 2012 at 1:47 PM · edited Tue, 19 November 2024 at 6:18 AM

heyas;

somebody twigged me to snarlygribbly's EZSkin python script, and i was trying it out today... but...!

i'm using an M3 character, and the EZSkin isn't doing anything on the SkinBody.  i thought at first it was because i had a complex skin and tattoo mix going on in the SkinBody shader, but i went back to a regular, straight texture map version.  and still, it changes all the materials, but not SkinBody.

any idea what's going on?  or how to make it force load onto a material i have selected?  or something.    oh, yes, i loaded the definitions, and it recognizes my character as daz gen 3 correctly.

ps: it doesn't recognize his genitalia.  um... this is embarassing, but how do i know if i have M3 gen or... i seem to hazily remember that satanica had male genitalia, and i might have bought that?  does anybody know how i can TELL???

OOPS!

i found the 'editor'!  and the definition things.. in the editor tab...

okay, i see; SkinBody for some reason is set to 'ignore.'  i can change that.

new question:  eyebrow is set to 'maybe.'  ???  what's THAT mean? lol!

wait wait!  okay, while we're here and since nobody answered yet... :X

the EZSkin manual says to make sure to enclose everything in an environment for proper reflections.  dumb bloodsong the dinosaur question:  is throwing an IBL light on the scene considered 'enclosing it in an environment'?  :X

 Hi Bloodsong

Nope! You need to have surrounding geometry, I usually use BagginsBill's free Envirodome-and add a an image-directions on doing that are included with the freebie.

Hey Bloodsong

If "Mr. Happy" is a an attached prop-you can select it-then choose "use prop" to get EZ to recognize it Then look in the Editor for the materials. If it is a figure- the same applies-select it-then open EZ skin-and proceed.

Online Now!

Did you select the package?  That is how EZSkin switches between figures.  Then go to the Editor Tab and assign the appropriate shaders.

My M3 doesn't have a SkinBody material, it has a SkinTorso. If EZSkin comes across a material zone it isn't expecting it assigns the 'ignore' shader until you tell it what to use.

M3's genitals have the geometry reference blMilMan_m3GEN.obj
Eric Walter's advice is the right approach too.

The 'maybe' shader has a useless name. It was made in the early days of EZSkin before the names of shaders were exposed to users and before they were editable. It has been replaced by 'skintrans' now, but the 'maybe' shader has been retained for backwards compatibility. It takes the transparency setting into account, so whether of not you can see anything that EZSkin does depends on the Transparency value ... hence 'maybe'!

ohh...

does he also have like SkinArms and SkinLegs and SkinButt and whatnot-all?  that used to drive me bugnuts, so i just combined all those into one material in mine.  yeah, now it's all coming back to me!

i have also learned i DO have the satanica m3 gens.  it's designed to take the same texture map (i think...) which is why i couldn't tell by looking at it.

i feel so much more educated, now!  and 'maybe' seems to do wonders for my eyebrows.   ;)

thanks a bunch, guys!!

ps: yeah, i just added my m3 w/ skintorso and the satanica gens to the definition files.  sweet!

snarly, you rock!

pps:  bagginsbill has no free stuff or tutorials here.  :(   where does this venerated poser master keep his stuff??

He actually has quite a few here, but they are intermixed with the topics that he answers; for example the thread on 'underarm nubbies' recently bumped up to Page One has his dynamic hair settings..  Here is his repository of some of his major free stuff...
