Subject: Adjusting Reby Hair to Miki4

solstice69 ( ) posted Tue, 02 October 2012 at 5:59 AM · edited Mon, 25 November 2024 at 9:02 AM

Hi,

my favorite hair is RebyHair from DAZ and all my efforts to "fit" it to Miki won´t work as I can´t resize RebyHair at all. Do I miss something? Is there a way to fit it properly to Miki? If not, do you know any long hair in the style of RebyHair I can use on Miki?

Thanks and best,
Solstice

Is this conforming hair, or some other type of hair?

PickledPapaya ( ) posted Tue, 02 October 2012 at 7:05 AM

It is conforming

A conformer will only conform correctly to the figure is was made for. To use it on a different figure you have two options that I can think of.

  1. Save a copy of the hair geometry, positioned and scaled appropriately to the figure you want it to fit. Then create a conforming cr2 for it, based on the target cr2, and with all the geometry in the neck actor.

  2. Assuming that you don't know how to do the above, the alternative is this. Load the hair but don't conform it. Parent the hair's Body actor to the head actor of the target figure. Of course with this method the hair is not conformed, and you will have to pose it manually. With some conforming hair, some of the actors and/or channels may be hidden, you may need to unhide them to gain full control over the hair (but hopefully you will not need to do that). Use scaling and magnets to make the hair fit the figure's head.

If u just want to scale parts of it and probably has not yet discovered any reveal scale scripts.  There are scaling dials for each body part of a figure but they are all hidden.  You can unhide eg with snarlygribbly's scenefixer script.

Thanks! Got it! But what do I do with it?

You can instead, loads hairs and then apply as many magnets as needed to fit

In my post above, I suggested parenting the the Body of the hair to the head of the target figure. I now realize that was bad advice. You are better off parenting it to the chest. After posing the figure, save the pose to a Dot and apply it to the hair. This should get you somewhere near the ball park, but you will almost certainly need to tweak the pose of the hair.

Pictured above is the P6 "Long Hair_Evo_Jessi", parented to Antonia's chest.

Does Wardrobe Wizard (the version that ships with Poser 9/2012) manage to convert conforming hair like this with any degree of success??

I know it has the option... a tick box to optimise for a hair figure... and you could also check the box to copy weightmaps from Miki4 into the conforming item, if that adds anything for hair?

But not tried it myself as yet...

SUPPORT ALERT

There is a support paskage for Miki4 on PhilC's website already. It does cost, but it is a cheap way to get dozens of clothing items (and hair items) that you may already own, to work with Miki4.

There are also a few items for Miki4 already available at Poser World (for those of us who are members there).

Probably edited for spelling, grammer, punctuation, or typos.

He he... yup, got Miki4's WW support files as soon as Phil released them... I was hovering over his site as he was uploading. LOL.

Not tried doing any hair figures at all in WW as yet though... would it work in the OP's case?

I will give it a try later I guess... not got the Reby Sky hair, but should have something similar I think.

Thanks for all the tips! I´m a newbie to Poser and so have trouble to follow you... it worked quite well to "set Parent" RebyHair to Mikis head... not with the chest actually because simple movements like bending won´t work then.

I also just got the support package by PhilC. I placed it in the correct folder... and NOW? How can I use it? When I click on it on the "scripts" button I get a failure notice to check the installation.. but the files are placed in the correct folder (I use Poser 9).

Best,

Solstice
