Subject: The 50ft Chain

CuriousGeorge ( ) posted Sun, 21 October 2012 at 10:15 PM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 9:34 PM

I've been looking for a very long chain that I can use for some art.  I've searched around the forums and finally I did find a 50ft chain on ShareCG and it's a beautiful piece of work.  However it is incredibly slow on my poserpro 2012.  I think this may be due to the sheer number of ik chains in the object (over 200), but not sure.  I don't have this issue with any other characters.

If anyone knows of an alternative, please let me know.

Thanks,

                George

You might try cages python scripts

Yeah, I should take the 50ft chain down, for that very reason. It is horribly slow.

One alternative would be to use the 10ft or 20ft chains instead, and piece them together, otherwise, that Loopy script might work well for ya.

All Tied Up would do it.

The 50ft chain was made with All Tied Up, the problem is... It's 50ft long!

You need the 50ft chain to be shorter? 😕

All Tied Up  IS a great product, but the 50ft chain is a tad much. I'm more inclined to use my 10ft or 20ft versions, as they don't slow Poser down.

load chain, pose , eport chain, import obj , and move on. you can use a new scene with dummy props to show where the chain starts and ends if you have too.

I would strip out a lot of the erc code thats not used to reduce the size of the cr2.

My project is inspired by "Gullivers Travels".  As such, imagine a large person, tied down by people of tiny scale.  So whatever method (rope, chain, etc) is used to tie the subject down: 1.  There would be a lot of it and 2. It would be present multiple times.  The 50ft chain was the solution.

I'll look into the alternatives you've all provided.

A sincere thanks to everyone that chimed in.  :)

Truly appreciated.
