Subject: Editing the material order of an OBJ

Teyon ( ) posted Wed, 24 October 2012 at 5:24 PM · edited Thu, 14 November 2024 at 8:05 AM

Hey there gang. So I made a figure the other day and in Poser, the teeth material is the first in the list. I edited the CR2 so that Skin was first but that hasn't changed the way it's displayed in Poser. I then thought to edit the MTL file but that too, had no effect on the way it was displayed in Poser. Anyone have any ideas on how to correct that or am I just SOL?

Thanks,

T

Poser (2010 at least) appears to use the material order exactly opposite of the order in which the materials are named in the obj file. So if i wanted to to have the 3 materials "red", "green" and "blue" in poser, in this order, i use a text editor to insert these lines at the start of the obj-file:

usemtl blue

usemtl green

usemtl red

works with or without an mtl file. You can even add materials there that are not used by faces in the obj-file, they will appear in posers material list anyway.

Ah, ok. I've never had this happen to me, I usually have the order show up the way I want so I must have done something different this go around. Thanks, I'll go try that out.
