Subject: Mufti-Pass Rendering in the lesser versions

ddaydreams ( ) posted Tue, 06 November 2012 at 5:12 PM · edited Mon, 13 January 2025 at 12:05 PM
As a still artist who has Vue Complete. A major feature I would like to see in Vue Complete or available to lower versions is Multi-Pass Rendering. To allow better postwork options. So I have an idea for yet another Vue Module or Version, for those who can't afford Vue Infinite. One geared toward still artists, non animators. If it's a additional version it could be Called "Vue Stills" at the low end "Vue Stills Complete" at high end. Aimed (as the name would suggest at those who don't animate)Less animation features and more stills features already existing in infinite. To keep pricing the same I would gladly give up most animation features if needed to have Multi-Pass Rendering. If it's a module it could be called something like "Compositor" Either way it would allow one to have composting options such as Mufti-Pass Rendering in the lesser versions in whence I dwell. Any interest here in this ?

Has anyone suggested this to E-ON or should I ?

Mention to E-on that there is no ambient occlusion pass, unless it is in Vue 11 finally.

Since my origanal post I've been told that multi pass requires so much memory that most people with lower vue versions would probably not have enough memory to use it. So never mind.

Huh? Vue is just saving what it already has calculated while rendering.  It's trivial info like alpha, reflection, diffuse, ray traced shadows, highlights, z-buffer, normals, etc.

Maybe if saving in one huge PSD file will cause memory problems?  I only have 1GB of RAM available while using Vue, but multi-pass for me works fine with it.

ADDED:

People playing with Vue Pioneer have computers way more powerful than mine.  And I'm using Vue Infinite.

I had asked this same question elseware. Here is what I was told by Michel Rondberg of D&D creations on facebooks Vue Galleries Group

"I think the thought is this from e-on: Most artist have home pc's. Most studios have power rigs and renderfarms. And since multipass takes a great deal of memory (16gb is sometimes not even enough) it was logical to keep that feature to pro versions only. After all, multipass outputs many things specifically for animations, like g buffer data and velocity passes. Since complete also has less options overall to be set in the render options dialog vs pro, it is another thing that is a problem with keeping things compatible."

That makes sense not to include multi-pass then if "non-Pro" versions of Vue don't even calculate half the info that multi-passing makes use of.

Before I used some of the multi-pass stuff, I rendered in layers and saved in PNG format for compositing in my photo editor.
