Subject: Genesis Weight mapping- wrong?

I have a feeling that in some cases the unisex weight mapping is right for male Genesis-and wrong for Female Genesis.

On the left- Genesis female- on right V4-WM (weight mapped). To my eye- the pectoral area looks distorted with Genesis.  Both could use JCM correction with the elbows-more so Genesis. The poses are for the correct figure- the Basic Female Poses-for Genesis are the same positions as the "General Poses" for V4

Ssssshhhhh.........

You know that you aren't supposed to point out that 'one size fits all'.......doesn't.

What do you expect, Genesis just isn't Poser compatable, even with the DSON importer.

The TriAx weight mapping has been roughly converted to something Poser's WM can handle, the attached pic is a quicky in DS4.5, it uses the same morph, MAT and pose as yours, but the shape and bends are different.

And if V4-WM was the creation of the Poser Place collaboration, she has extra rigging bones along with a new rigging.  Not a fair comparison.

Just checked on both the Mac and PC and I don't see the distortion. Also you're comparing apples and oranges as well. I'm guessing the pose was intentionally changed from V4 because hands going through weight-mapped hair is going to cause a bit of havoc in DS4 if smoothing is turned on. Notice the hand positions look like they would be placed on top of hair, not through it.

Probably in the future, you may want to just ask "Is anyone having this issue", rather than saying it's wrong, as I think something is borked with your genesis.

I'll give it a shot and let ya know if I'm, seeing it.

Yep, I am getting it too. I'm using the very first version of the exporter. It doesn't matter if I load the basic female from the first, or if I load Genesis and apply the basic female morph in the properties panel. Same thing :) FWIW, I DID apply the Genesis version of that pose ;).

Which version are you using Eric and MaleMedia?

I updated to the latest exporter and still have the same thing. That's unfortunate. I even deleted everything in the DSON cache too.

I probably should say that, all in all, it still looks better than Vicky 4's default (not talking V4VM). It could look better tho.

Actually, it doesn't look all that unrealistic when rendered. Let's face it - we've ALL seen much worse bends than this. LOL Arms over the head has ALWAYS been a problem.

For my two cents if the V4 figure in Eric's pic above is V4WM, I think her arm pits look much worse.

Laurie- I'm leaning towards "something is borked with (your) my Genesis." Your renders looks much better than what I am seeing- here is V5 (using the Genesis poses Basic Female #1), V4 and V4-WM with V4 General pose 1

What I am seeing from you- and Male looks better than what I see. I could download the appropriate files and re-install. Supposedly nothing has changed in them though.

I am using the latest DSON importer btw-refreshed my download and installed yesterday.

Hmm...I dunno what to tell ya :(. I can say that putting clothes on Genny just now crashed Poser. And it didn't do that before on the first importer. Oh well...probably user error ;).

I hope ya get it fixed :(

Thanks to Laurie and Male3D,

Evidently Genesis was "borked." I reinstalled-with the following results. Not bad. Certainly the pectorals are not bowed out-like they were.

Should I request the thread be deleted or locked since the premise is incorrect?

Eric Walters ( ) posted Sun, 11 November 2012 at 11:58 AM

 Thanks Laurie-

I did! What clothing? I have much of the Gen+Poser clothing-I can try it myself.

I did notice that in an earlier render-when I turned limits on for my V4 character- V5 vanished-and I could not find her!

Turns out my Genesis character was compromised in some way-reinstall fixed it.

It was the Journeyer Scout clothing. LOL. I got it all going in the right direction. Apparently it didn't like drag and drop. Haha.

The boots are a bit "puffy" at the feet, but I can live with it ;).

I've decided she needs more hair and clothes...lol.

Hi Laurie

I'm liking Mairy's Marja Hair. The Charger Horse is from 2002 btw. Daz recently updated the installer-and I installed it.

i thought about making a r/l photo reference , until i saw myself in the mirror .  not sure i wanna risk breaking my camera lense. lol

abducting joints science.

the collar bone would never twist?  it moves up/down. i don't think it moves back. a lil bit of front movement - makes the collarbones show more pronounced under skin.

oh, just remembered i have Cindy Crawford workout dvd.  may have some reference points in it.

HAHA! I would similarly be afraid of causing camera damage. :-) Let me know what you find.

Always. I just look in the mirror. For r/l man, I just look at spouse.

If you don't have a r/l woman to look at, maybe you need to put Poser away and get out a bit more. :P (Unless you're not into women, that is -- which is, of course, a perfectly fine way to live. I'm not all that into them, after all.)
