Subject: What I've learned so far about 3D vision and Poser.

Hi

I posted a while back asking about making 3D images and video compatible with nVidia 3D Vision in Poser.

Well today I created my first 2 images and it works great.

Man what an improvement over the old Anaglyph images.

The first thing I did was create two colored balls just floating in the air against a black background.

One closer then the other.

When I opened it in nVidia 3D viewer I wanted to touch them floating there in front of my monitor.

They were clear, clean and with perfect color.

No fuzzy edges, no double image.

Next I opened up one of my Poser characters, using textures made from photos.

I zoomed in until the head almost filled the monitor top to bottom.

When I opened it there was a full sized head floating in the air in front of my monitor, you could see the eyelashes and the texture in the skin.

It was almost spooky.

Ok, here's how it's done, it's really quite easy now that I know what I'm doing.

Open you character or prop and compose your picture.

Center the camera to zero transverse movement, dolly X.

Poser 9 makes the next part easier because you can use clicks to move the camera.

For these images I moved the camera 4 clicks left and then rendered the image.

I used the same size as my preview windows about 1600 by 900, I'll up that to 1920 by 1080 next time.

I then moved the camera 8 clicks to the right and rendered the right image, (or maybe the left, I'm not clear on that, I seem to have to switch them after I get them in the viewer) I'm going to experiment with how far appart they should be.

There are scripts to do this I havne't gotten them set up on my new computer yet.

Now you just open both images in Stereo Photo Maker same as for anaglyphs.

Once it's open there isn't a lot to do, I don't think you can do all the adjusting you do for anaglyphs.

Once it's open you save it as an .MPO file.

Now open the .MPO file in, 3D Vision Photo Viewer and select view full screen.

The screen will go black and then you image appears in real 3D.

I was always disappointed with the images I made using the blue red glasses.

This is a whole new world.

Anyone interested in 3D should get set up to use 3D Vision.

I happened to need to buy a new computer so I opted to buy the right components.

I have a nVidia GTX 680 video card and a Asus 27" monitor that has a 144hz refresh rate and Light Boost Technology, (makes the images brighter when using the glasses) and of course the 3D vision kit.

This is going to be fun, first stills and then on to video.

I think you're meddling with things you don't understand.  Don't let them out of your runtime.

Seriously, sounds like good work.  Pity you can't post in 3D.

Hello MikeMoss,

Happy that your system works well. Personnaly, I look at my 3D Poser creations on my passive LG 3DTV and it is fantastic. See my gallery for some images. You can transform my cross-view images to MPO images with Stereo photo maker (don't forget to reverse images R -> L and L -> R) and you will be able to see them in your system.

Have a good time with stereoscopic viewing.
