Anyone else see this? All looks good. Then I add SSS to the face- and the transmapped hair and lashes go wonky. Anyone else? Vue11 Inf Mac 64

Same issues with 10.5

You need to use SSS for all materials, and all mats using transmap must have the "Use infinitely thin model" box checked.

Or use SkinVue Elite which makes skin look much better.

Hi Shawn

I got SkinVue 9 to work in Vue 9- I applied SkinVue and tried SSS settings up to 100. None seem to match the effect I can get with the SSS options in the Advanced materials under translucency. In fact-I note that SSS is NOT checked on materials that have SkinVue applied-no matter what the SSS setting in SView.

SkinVue fakes SSS.  I've been looking for Vue renders that use SSS for anything.  Slim pickings.  I used it once for a marble statue.  It came out all right at the time.

I have never tried SSSing an entire Poser figure.  I've only worked with just a torso or head for experimenting Vue's SSS ablilties.  But anyway, SkinVue looks like SSS is being used at times.  So it passes the sniff test for me.

Hi Shawn

Thanks for your help again, btw

It is a nice fake! SkinVue will only work in 32 bit mode with MacOSX. That is the fault of Apple btw. So I applied it, saved-then rendered in 64 bit mode. It has some nice features. Probably worth getting SV elite.

I've been playing with SSS. Particularly once you pointed out that ALL materials have to have it applied to avoid the artifacts. I need to be able to use masking-the eyebrows should NOT get the SSS effect-whereas the skin should.

I will post some renders

I would paint the eyebrows onto the face texture and just hide the eyebrow objects from rendering.  Vue puts outlines around everything that has an alpha or transparent mask when it is SSSed.  But SSS (in theory) is supposed to be used only on solid/closed objects.

I'm doing a project right now for an RPG.  But when I ever finish it, I'd like to do some experiments in Vue with SSS.  I'm using Vue Infinite 9.5 32-bit for WinXP.  Because I never really tried pushing that material to see how far it will go.  I use mostly modo for any SSS texturing I do.
