Subject: Poser Scene Thumbnail

Is there a way to make a thumbnail of the current scene to save when you save a PZ3...so when I browse a directory of scene's I can see what they are?

All I get is a bunch of red X figures

Render the same scene as a smaller image (91 x 91) and export that as a png for Poser or any other image file you wish.

Hmmmm....they should have a "include thumbnail on save" option, that does a quick background render.   Never thought about it, until a little directory cleanup, and I've had to open like 20 scenes to figure out if I needed them.

There might be something @ RDNA, IIRC.

With Poser 9-PP2012, when you save a scene in the Library/Scene, a scene thumbnail is automatically created in that folder.

I have this python script sitting in my runtime... I don't remember where I got it from or who it was by (a freebie obviously, and for some reason no ReadMe that I can recall... Or a ReadMe of such insignificance that I didn't save it).

Anyway it's supposed to render a thumb for Pz3's somehow but I've never gotten it to work. The error message seems to indicate it's because I'm using a Mac?

Anyway here's the script, maybe you'll have better luck if you want to fiddle with it...

...The script

Drop the .txt extension.

As Vilters says, if you save a scene to the Poser 9 / Pro 2012 Scene section of the Poser Library, a thumbnail is automatically created...

I think that the Poser Library generated thumbnails use the Preview Renderer, is that right?

3doutlaw ( ) posted Tue, 11 December 2012 at 7:56 AM

Thanks Primorge, that worked like a treat! (I had to reformat it, as the txt posted came through with a lot of garbage in it)   Also, thanks Philc for making it!  :)

This was in the header:

Script to save a thumbnail along with a PZ3 file

Use for whatever you like but at your own risk.

hborre ( ) posted Tue, 11 December 2012 at 11:02 AM

The thumbnail generated is just the preview window which is not very flattering if you are looking for something more esthetic in appearance.

I use thumbnail designer by Netherworks studio over at RDNA and it is on a half price sale at the moment.

I use Poser 13 on Windows 11 - For Scene set up I use a Geekcom A5 -  Ryzen 9 5900HX, with 64 gig ram and 3 TB  storage, mini PC with final rendering done on normal sized desktop using an AMD Ryzen Threadipper 1950X CPU, Corsair Hydro H100i CPU cooler, 3XS EVGA GTX 1080i SC with 11g Ram, 4 X 16gig Corsair DDR4 Ram and a Corsair RM 100 PSU .   The desktop is in a remote location with rendering done via Queue Manager which gives me a clearer desktop and quieter computer room.

3doutlaw ( ) posted Tue, 11 December 2012 at 1:27 PM

I did have to tweak that script so that Cancel did not crash Poser9

Also, Philc dropped by and here is a link to the source of the freebie script Primorge had...

primorge ( ) posted Tue, 11 December 2012 at 3:34 PM

Doh!, Hmmm. Never occured to me to actually look at the text of the script! Indicates my general disinterest in programming of even the most rudimentary sort, I guess. Glad it was of some use to someone... PhilC rocks!
