Subject: any rumours of next Poser release?

Quote - But maybe a sim queue would be needed?

Yes.

Quote - Maybe the whole scene would need to close down while the sim ran on it in the background... but you could then work on another scene?

Yes.

Quote - Maybe it just needs more multi-threading, somehow, to simply make it faster...

Yes!

Quote - Well, I'm not a fancy, big-city poser user and I don't know much about the Politics and Mechanics of working on a render engine.

I just know what I need, and Firefly ain't it.

Down here in Farm country, when you want to plow a field, you're going to need a tractor.

To my simple mind, Poser is trying to hook 'ole Bessie up to a backhoe and that just isn't cutting it for this Corn-and-dairy operation.

Have you tried Pose2Lux?

Quote - You know, I am happy with PP2012 and would only HOPE that SM finally get the scaling Problem solved so that , when for example use the Kids 4 Toddler, we do not break the little Arms and legs.

And something like DS has, where you can fit for example M4 Clothes on Kids 4 or V4 ...

Erm, the scaling issue has been fixed.  Have you downloaded the latest Service Pack?

If you want to fit 1 figures clothes onto another, you have several options.

Poser comes with Wardrobe Wizard - get the plug-ins you need at:

www.philc.net

And away you go - if you want to use something else, there is Xdresser (Windows only):

www.evilinnocence.com

Another good helper application to have is Morphing Clothes (it will add morphs to clothing that doesn't have the ones you need):

"- Input a texture.

  • Work out what that texture should look like depending on camera position and lighting conditions.
  • Work out where the highlights should be, what size they are, how blurry/sharp they are, and then colour them according to what the previous step found out.
  • Output those highlights to the screen."

Thank you for taking the time to try to explain the usage of nodes in relation to the poser surface.

While I'm by far not a Poser material room wiz, I'm afraid your lengthy explainations were things I was already aware of. the screen capped material was simply an illustration of another members verbal formula as discerned. Obviously an image node would require an image map. Didn't feel the need to actually place one in the node for the sake of the example in relation to the question, though.

Hopefully RobynsVeil will come along and clarify as I'm attracted to minimalist materials and very rarely use alt_diffuse other than with other's material explorations.

thanks

Have I tried Pose2lux and octane and jet fuel and Monster energy drinks....sort of.

This circles back to my earlier frustration that Poser has become a hub that is filled with clunky, unworkable BS and in order to get a result that doesn't make me want to close it altogether and spend my valuable time liking things on Facebook I have to navigate a labryinth of plugins, fees coming from different places, unexpected Mom's Basement computer crashes, someone wanted to use fucking Java now I've got to figure out why Java isn't working, while openly weeping that i Have to reinvite Java back into my life, it's just a never ending nightmare.

What frustrates you is what I actually want - the fact that Poser is becoming more modular means that it will be able to take advantage modern computer architecture.  I want more choices, not less.

If you want a one-size-fits-all product, they are available.  Just not a Poser's price range.

Sorry you don't like Java, but I have need of it.  There are a number items in my workflow that are written in Java.  It may not be great, but it beats having to install windows on my computer.

@ Primorge:

Sorry my description was so inconcise... what I had in mind I've attached. The main reason to attach stuff to PoserSurface's Alt_Diffuse (or Alt_Spec) is these channels are more basic... they don't do things with the lights in the scene, unlike Diffuse_Color and Specular_Color.

So, you have better control over your shader.

Thank you so much for the reply RobynsVeil, I think I recall BB mentioning something about this in another thread. In any case, seems very useful. I've always been a little wary of the alt_diffuse for various reasons. Experimentation is in order, I guess.
