Yuck.

IceScribe ( ) posted Thu, 21 February 2013 at 10:35 PM

I rarely post on the forums but felt I should, if adding my post to the others about the new format counts for anything.

Do not like the white boxes around the products's promo images. Looks cheap, not luscious.  A darker color like the charcoal in the forum would be more attractive as well as easier to look at.  I'd put it like this, how many people look attractive in a plain white shirt?

Winterclaw ( ) posted Thu, 21 February 2013 at 10:56 PM

There's a bug in the galleries, at least the individual ones.  The blue space on the top of the text is bleeding over the row above it.

There is an error in the Sidebar of the Gallery which is the result of the bootstrap.css file using the following rule:

blockquote small:before {<br></br>  content: '2014 0A0';<br></br>}

This is causing the Date Posted in the Tip of the Week to sometimes break out of the sidebar and bleed over the edges.   You can see this in the Gallery for an image in IE 9, Chrome 24 and Firefox 19.

Fenier ( ) posted Thu, 21 February 2013 at 11:39 PM

Quote - Well, then, that would explain why the bar graphics on the right is covering up a portion of the text in the middle for me.  Same thing seems to be happening at Daz as well.  Yes, I'm on Internet Explorer 9.  I'm starting to wonder if they're preparing for Windows 8 / Internet Explorer 10.

This sounds like you are viewing the page Zoomed in.  Try hitting CTRL-0  (That's Zero) to reset your Zoom Factor.  See if that fixes it.

Nope, I'm definitely in normal view.

I actually find the glaring contrast of all those white boxes against the blue to be so hard on the eyes that I can't look around long enough to make a fair assessment of any of the changes. I do, however, feel a pounding headache coming on.

Online Now!

I will wait to see if the colors and look improves but at least the site still works the same. I look forward to seeing what it looks like before making a final judgement.

ptousig ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2013 at 12:36 AM · edited Fri, 22 February 2013 at 12:37 AM

I don't especially like the new layout, but I can deal with it. The colors are horrifying. Looking at this makes me wince because there is far too much harsh contrast going on. As I type this, I have a bright white header with black letters, then immediately below it is a blue section with grey letters. That's awful.

Change up the colors to be more muted and I won't mind nearly as much.

And I agree, all change is not good simply for the sake of being changed. The site could benefit from more tablet friendly interfacing, but it should not have to be painful to look at to achieve that.

DocMikeB ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2013 at 2:33 AM

I don't like the whole idea... to make every site "tablet friendly". On my 21 inches LCD screen this new layour looks bad.

Please... give to the users an option to change the color scheme... this white is distracting and hurts eyes.

3DGuy ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2013 at 2:42 AM

I took a look at the sourcecode of the page and it's a mess.

  • The header has some meta tags wich are 'self-closing'. That's not correct for this document type (HTML 4.01).
  • There are stylesheet links outside of the header (bootstrap). They're placed inside the body tag.
  • The header tag is used. This is a HTML5 element. Doctype is HTML4.01
  • Overall the tables are a mess. Tags in places they shouldn't be. Things not closed properly.
  • Links need to be properly encoded

Looks like the designers didn't use any form of validating tools because my validators are going haywire on this page. This shouldn't have been released yet. This looks like a work in progress. You just don't mess with a live site like this. Make your changes, rigorously test it. Make sure your markup is valid, then you release it/go live. Sure there can be the odd little bug, but not like this. "They're working on it" is not a valid excuse.

In 'My Forum Options' you can define custom CSS. There's an option to show the default CSS. That is basically unreadable because of the color forced by the !important on the body text color. Looks like they forgot to add a styling for the class assigned to the div that shows the default CSS.

Huge white areas with strain-inducing gray text...did you forget that people who do visual art kind of, you know, need to keep their eyes healthy?  This is a rather thoughtless revamp.

JUST NO

caty77 ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2013 at 3:54 AM

blue bg for blue links, or gray rubriques in profil, beurk.

And letter "y" is eaten by location in the galleries with the new presentation.

Finally, I agree that the white band is not great for the eyes.

renecyberdoc ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2013 at 5:13 AM

the header could possibly be less white or lets say inmid grey maybe.surfing is ok in firefox all is easy to find.except the mouse-over but these issues are beeing adressed as i write this,

yeah lets go ahead.

Yes, indeed. I really hope they change the white to something a bit more off-white.  I've been logged in less than ten minutes and my eyes are watering.  I won't be spending much time here at Rendo until all the white is toned down.   As a consequence, I'll probably be spending less money here (which is good for my wallet, if bad for Rendo).  My eye sight is bad enough without having a content store contributing to going blind faster. rachel12 ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2013 at 7:34 AM

Not a fan of the new look, colors are terrible, far too white for me. Some texts bleed into another box text, photostamps are smaller, while the detail text is far bigger than it needs to be.

Looks like an amateurish cut and paste job, that was not tested before going live.

rachel12 ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2013 at 7:39 AM

BTW, the arrow keys below the feature sales box don't work. (Least for me) Whoever did this mess, fire them.

Be careful buying things until they get things sorted. I tried to make a purchase this morning and entered my Credit Cart info like I always do. I got the usual email that the order had been placed, but it shows as being Unpaid and that $0.00 has been paid. The page is also showing that my payment method is Pay Pal...but I didnt use Pay Pal. I used my Credit Card...this is really messed up and reminds me of DAZ..

Thank you.  I've gotten tired of the mentality of making things great for tablets and screw everything else.  I've almost never seen a site update in the past few years actually get better visual due to that mentality being so common.  What's sad is that there are a few useful improvements in here but you have to deal with the other problems.

The thing I dont understand is..how many people use their tablets to create 3d artwork on? Maybe I am ancient and behind the times perhaps..but I use a desk top computer with 2 large monitors. So that being said..I would think that the majority of people that use this site, do not do their shopping on this site using a tablet do they??

Thank you! At least now I know I am not the only one with this thinking! I do have and use a tablet..but not for shopping here. When I shop here I am always on my big computer where I do my work. So this trying to cater to the tablet users makes no sense to me...

the_tdog ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2013 at 8:55 AM

Yeah, I have an iPad myself, but I don't have a Poser or Daz Studio app for it, ha ha.  I have occasionally looked at this site on it, but have never BOUGHT anything while surfing on my iPad... doesn't make sense.  I buy all my items from the computer I actually use the 3D programs on, and that's not coincidentally where I do most of my shopping from, as well.

Quote - > Quote - How do we find the clerance section now?

Hey Tigger

It took me awhile to find it.

Goto the "Marketplace" tab

scroll down to "Sale Items"

You'll see a bar marked "Dept".

On the middle of that bar you'll see "Filter By", click on that

On the middle of the dropdown menu, you'll see "Clearance"

Or you can just go to the "Filter By" tab at the top of every Marketplace page.  Clearance is the fifth selection from the top.  What's nice is this means you can do a sort by category, then pull up the Prime, Sale, Clearance, etc., items within that search range without having to back track.

Add me too.  My 3d PC is where i purchase, do my artwork and do my song writting, its my business PC if you like. I only trust pieces of wire connected to sites where i purchase, perhaps old fashioned common sence..

Is Rendo trying to go down the same losing road as DAZ?  Shame if they are as DAZ hardly get anyof my business these days!!!

Hamer66 ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2013 at 9:27 AM

love to use my ipad, for reading forums and sites. However did use it 1 time for a purchase. But i can tell you, never again (my main internet connection was out, if it happens again i will wait until thats fixed ) .

It is easier to use a workstation and download/install the product after the purchase. I really prefer my workstation, and market sites that are aimed at/build for normal screens.

DavidGB ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2013 at 11:05 AM

Not liking this website change at all.

Three things in particular:

1 I have a laptop, and don't run my browser (IE9) at full screen width for various reasons that aren't going to change. With other sites I visit, that's no problem. With Renderosity as it was, that's no problem. With this new version of the website, many pages have the formatting severely screwed at the browser width I use: tings in columns running on over adjacent things, columns of thumbnails right outside the background column they are supposed to be in etc. Seriously not cool and very poor web design.

2 Going to a product page, I have to scroll down seemingly forever to get to the product description. MUCH too much scrolling needed.

3 Previously clicking on the merchant's name on a product page produced a menu, on which clicking on 'contact' took one to the merchants main member page, from which i could click to their gallery and/or freestuff. And that's something i do quite a lot - wanting to go from a product page to the merchant's gallery or freestuff. Now, clicking on the name on the product page and then contact just takes me to my sitemail new message page with the merchant's name filled in (which was a click from the member page before) and there appears to be no link on a product page that i can follow to get to the merchant's gallery or freestuff. i appear to have to go to the galleries or freestuff and type in the merchant's name to search for their gallery or freestuff. Don't like this - I want a click path from the merchant's product page to their gallery and/or freestuff without me having to type in searches. Please add a new link to the merchant's member page from their product page if the 'contact' link is going to remain a link to a new IM page to them.

All in all, I'm not a happy Renderosity user. Aspects of the last site change I didn't like have already cut down the amount of shopping I do here. The issues above with this latest change, if they aren't addressed, will lose most of the rest of my potential business from the merchants, unfortunately.

Rapierman ( ) posted Fri, 22 February 2013 at 11:08 AM

I do not own an iPad.  I do not intend to purchase an iPad or any other tablet mechanism.  I'm not an Apple person, so it makes no sense for me to use an i-Anything and tablets are too expensive for me.  I have a desktop and a laptop and that is all that I will ever use.  I don't care if there are umpteen million tablets out there, I'm not one of them, I will never be one of them, and to assume that I am one of them is an insult to my intelligence.

RENDEROSITY, FIX THIS THING NOW!!!!

I look at new Renderosity and see... BOOTSTRAP everywhere :) I don't like Bootstrap too much. It's been trendy and used recently on many websites which makes them all look the same. It easy and fast to use (especially for developers) but at the same time it destroys individuality. But it's only my point of view.

In my opinion all the white elements on darker background may distract users. I personally can't focus on the content!

I don't use a tablet, and probably never will. But it's a waste of time trying to convince the powers-that-be at Renderosity to un-do the assinine "improvements" they have put in place.

Beyond Stacy writing about it taking a "minute" to work everything out, we have seen absolutely ZERO response from anyone at Rendo. They clearly don't give a damn about how we feel.

I'm done with it - I'll stick around because of the friends I've made here, but I'll likely be posting a lot less here and more at DA and other places.

Well, the formatting is still totally messed up at the browser size I use. Designing a page so it will work at varying sizes is fairly fundamental, so this seems like a very basic bug (or complete design cock-up) that hasn't been squashed yet.

Course... could be worse - could make the purchases and spend the next five months unable to download being told "it's not our end it's yours" I suppose.
