Subject: Need Advice on Installing Poser Pro 2012...

Techyman ( ) posted Fri, 12 April 2013 at 7:22 PM · edited Wed, 24 July 2024 at 10:57 PM

I started many years ago with a copy of Poser (yes, the original) and kept going up until Poser 6, when circumstances and some burn out got me out of 3D.  When I came back to it a couple of years ago, I started using Daz Studio, just to play around and now 3D is back in my life.  I recently purchased Poser Pro 2012 during the spring sale and I am getting ready to install it (just cleaning out the drives, defragging, etc.)  I have quite a few items that I purchased over the years installed in DS and I'm wondering how they will intergrate into Poser.  I am hoping for some advice on avoiding the inevitable pitfalls that seem to lead to hours of frustration, hair pulling, and the overwhelming desire to go and live among the Amish.

Any advice/warnings/encouragement will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Um, let's see I have the Daz Gremlin in Poser Pro 2012...and he's maybe, I dunno...13 years old? LOL.

There hasn't been anything I haven't been able to use in Poser Pro 2012. If the installer still works in your newer OS, it'll still work ;).

If you want to use anything Genesis, you'll need the DSON plugin. Even then, most of the clothes you'll likely need to convert with DS

Thanks.  I'm setting aside some time tonight to try and get everything installed so that I can spend the next couple of days playing with it!

Welcome back to the Fray... 😄

Since you speak of defragging drives, I presume you are using Windows.

1.  Install your Poser content either where Poser tells you, or in a seperate directory outside of the c:/Program Files hirearchy, not in the Poser Program directory.  I have a directory called Poser Library where all of my external runtimes live.

2.  Poser no longer reads .rsr files, so old content needs a .png file to show a thumbtail in the Poser Library.  Dizzi has a program that will generate pngs from the .rsrs automagically for an entire directory tree; just let it go overnite.  http://neocron.webspaceforme.net/alforum/index.php?topic=1489.0

3.  Add your DAZ content runtime to the Poser Library so you don't need to reinstall all of your stuff...  https://support.smithmicro.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/2083/~/installing-poser-content-from-previous-poser-versions
