Subject: Is Matmatic going to support the new Nodes?

...in PP2014?

Just back from a hiatus - playing in a different sandbox, one I'll probably go back to from time to time - but wanting to get back into material-making in Poser and just wondering: is there anything exciting to anticipate for PP2014 in terms of a new version of Matmatic to support the new stuff?

I do think that the new compound node will be great for complex materials, where much of the inner workings (the node spaghetti) "simply" encodes known light physics equations, in Poser node format... and well, basically isn't needing to be exposed to the end-user...

...this is much of the point of the compound node, isn't it?

So, would make sense to be incorporated into Matmatic, wouldn't it?

Looking at BBGlossy, for example, I guess all but the left-hand side parameters, could be tidied into a compound node, quite happily, couldn't they?

Although, I have to admit, I do rather like gazing in wonder, like some primitive proto-human, at the bewilderingly awesome tangle of nodes to the right of the main node there... ;)

Hi, RV and MC!

I haven't even looked into this yet, so don't know how much work it is.

The compound node isn't the only new component - there is also the input node groupy thing and the output node groupy thing, which are peculiar. They don't fit the existing model, particularly the inputs.

The external input thingys can only be connect to one node.parameter, which is a very strange rule - no other connection has to be one-to-one like that - all others are one-to-many. As a result, this will require more than simple addition of a couple node definitions - it requires algorithmic changes in matmatic's rules for combining common connections.

I don't have time to do this work at the moment. I may never have time, either. SM asked me to build some mats for this release that would have been included but I have too many projects already.

Hey BB :)

Well, good to hear SM asked for it. It's one of the things I'd hoped to see in the bundled content for the new release... some new mats from your good self ;)

Course, I'm personally still well supplied on that front, with BBGlossy2... and the candy paint preview... not going to run out of things to do with those anytime soon...

So thanks again!

Still awaiting my copy of PP2014 though... work and home life are mega busy for me too right now. So figured I could wait for the postal service and get something to put on a shelf.

Hi BB 😄

Nice to hear from you - thanks for replying. Just re-read my initial post... I seem to be pressuring a bit. I'm sorry about that - it was more just curiosity, really. I fully understand (and sympathise!) with getting busy... been there myself of late. I'm delighted to see you've been quite successful at finally getting your materials to market, btw... good ON you!

Good luck with all your projects... summer's coming in your neck of the woods, so don't forget to smell the roses.

😄
