You are right this does look better. I gues the old saying less is more is true again.

It's quite simple, by removing the space on the right side of her head (which was basically dead space as it had no action in it) you're giving her 'breathing space'. Now you can really see that she has turned her head to look at you - before that she was looking to the left. If you'd removed all the space on the left side it would have looked as though she was about to fall out of the picture...Uh, I'm not very good at explaining this, am I! :-)
