Subject: Changing Runtime Library Order

gtrdon ( ) posted Sat, 13 July 2013 at 5:48 PM · edited Mon, 03 February 2025 at 12:59 PM

I remember back when I was using PP2012,I could reposition the order(position) of the  Runtime Library  by just selecting the library name in the dialog box and dragging and dropping it at the position I wanted. I have PP2014 now but I seem to have forgotten what menu or method you use to do this. Right clicking and dragging does not work so there must be something else I am suppose to do. I went back to PP2012 and tried to do it and no success either. I musT have forgot how I did it. Could this have been from a third party app that I forgot that I had?

Any suggestions or hints would be appreciated

With Poser closed you can use Notepad to edit

C::Documents and Settings:Owner:Application Data:Poser Pro10LibraryPrefs.xml

Your path to LibraryPrefs.xml may vary slightly depending on user/Poser version etc.

Thanks for your input Phil.

Editing the XML file was the way I used to do it before PP2012 it seemed a little tricky to figure out the format and it seemed to be  a bit of of a  hassle compared to the built in function that operated from within inside Poser itself. However, Since I only used the internal function  once  I am begining to think that I must have  done it with a with some 3rd party python utilty script or addon that I had installed on the PP2012.  However, that was a couple years ago....and my memory has failed me as to what it was or where I got it.

I guess push comes to shove I'll go to the external  xml edit method.

On a related note.. Can you delete runtimes by deleting them in that xml? I have some empty runtimes that are just taking up space.. and I haven't been able to find an easy way to delete those yet.

You just can't put the words "Poserites" and "happy" in the same sentence - didn't you know that? LaurieA

Quote - seemed a little tricky to figure out the format

I am unable to fathom what you mean by this.

Each library is one line of text. The order of the lines is the order they will show in the UI. Move lines of text up or down - the format has nothing to do with it.

You do not need to edit the lines in any way - just move them.

Nope. Poser will re-index the lines of XML for you. All it cares about is what order they are read in.

Those index numbers became irrelevant in Poser 8. But they kept them in the XML - I have no idea why as they serve no purpose whatsover.

Yes you can delete them in the XML that way. But the UI way is this:

In the library next to "Show Library" where it says , pull that down and select the library you want to delete. (The UI now only shows content from that one library.) As soon as you do this, it adds a button to delete a runtime on the right. Click that.

(Note: Selecting to show the standard (main) library does not offer to delete it. You're not allowed to remove the main Poser library.)

That's good to know that reindexing manually in not necessary.  Simplifies the process.

Ah OK. I was certain there had to be a way of doing it from inside Poser. I just hadn't looked properly for it :)

I agree not having  to reindexing makes the manual edit process easier! I am more willing to tackle that now.

I still think that I had a way to do it( Move order in Poser) but it must have been by using a 3rd party script plugin that I had loaded up. Where it was I dont remember...I found the function by accident..

Okay,

I found the application plugin that allowed editing of the Runtime Library directories. I had only used it once on PP2012 and had forgotten where it came from .

After reloading it from an old backup I found it

It was Library Manager 2_6 Runtimes Manager by Shader Works at RDNA.

I am glad to have now learned how to do it (edit) it manually  and to find out how much easier to do than I first thought.  I don't know how I could survive without these user forums and there memebers

Thanks to all for your help
