Subject: The Mystery of Morph Injections

anupaum ( ) posted Thu, 18 July 2013 at 1:29 PM · edited Sun, 21 July 2024 at 3:57 AM

A strange thing has happened with DAZ morphs in my copy of Poser Pro 2014. All of the standard morphs, and my Morphs ++ are installed in my main runtime, but Poser 2014 struggles to find them and I'm constantly being prompted to put them in by hand. The program opens my Morphs folder and asks where to find each and every morph for V4 and M4 when I'm running an animation This is a real pain!

Has anyone else had this problem?  If so, how did you solve it?

Which OS platform are you using and where is Poser installed?

anupaum ( ) posted Thu, 18 July 2013 at 1:52 PM · edited Thu, 18 July 2013 at 1:53 PM

I'm using Windows 7. All of my Poser installations have gone on a separate hard drive from the OS. I have my main runtime in a different location than Poser Pro 2014 (same drive), but I don't have a problem with K4 morphs and injections -- only the V4 ones.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Thu, 18 July 2013 at 3:33 PM

What is the folder to which you installed the content? Where do the files appear in the library? if you are getting the errors when you load the basic figure, go to RuntimeLibraries!DAZ and run the DzCreateExFiles-v4.bat (or -m4) file by double-clicking it.

anupaum ( ) posted Thu, 18 July 2013 at 3:58 PM

Here's the way the hierarcy works:

Runtime -> Libraries -> Pose -> DAZ Mats and Poses -> DAZ's Victoria 4 -> Morph Injections -> Base

                 -> Morphs ++

                 -> Inj Base V4

                 -> Inj Morphs ++ V4

This is the exact same structure that exists for the K4 morphs, but I'm not having any trouble with them.

Go figure!

OK, that looks right. Have you tried running the batch file?

I'm not sure what you mean. Please explain.

I would suggest reinstalling V4, V4's morphs, etc. into your actual Poser 2014 runtime not your separate Main Runtime. That's what I had to do. Unless you're very familiar with which files to copy & paste, I would go through the actual full reinstallation process of the original DAZ files.

Oh, I was afraid someone would suggest something like that . . .  I've just given that a try, but I'm rendering right now so we'll have to see if it worked . . .

V4 and all her morphs can reside in any runtime, as long as all the files are together.  That includes external runtime folders.  Running the batch file could correct the problem unless there has been a corruption for the primary files.

Okay. Can you please explain what a batch file is, where I can find it and how I run it? Forgive me for being necient, but I really have no idea about this.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Fri, 19 July 2013 at 10:03 AM

Go to the folder you isntalled to, then within that to RuntimeLibraries!DAZ. If you look in that folder you should see one or more .bat files, DzCreateExPFiles-v4 or DzCreateExPFiles-m4 for example (on a mac you want the .command files with the matching name). Double-click those to run them.

anupaum ( ) posted Fri, 19 July 2013 at 10:19 AM

Okay, there's a specific one for K4, but nothing for V4 or M4. There IS a file called "DZCreateExPFiles," but there's no V4 or M4 following . . . I clicked on it and a window flashed open, then closed very quickly.  Is that all there is to it?

RHaseltine ( ) posted Fri, 19 July 2013 at 2:46 PM

No, the version without a figure name is the actual utility, which doesn't do anything on its own - the batch files launch that and tell it which folder to process. Are there folder for Victoria 4 or Michael 4 in the !DAZ folder with the batch files? if not then something went wrong with the installation.

anupaum ( ) posted Fri, 19 July 2013 at 3:17 PM

Okay, I'll look in my original V4 and M4 folders. (I save everything . . . ) Thank you for your help!

anupaum ( ) posted Fri, 19 July 2013 at 4:02 PM

Nope . . . Nothing there!

I tried re-installing V4, but that didn't help.

Also, whenever I exit Poser, I'm getting THIS wacro error:

Exception in deleteObjects: Invalid Scene object

Why is this program so buggy? Ugh!

The wacro error has been submitted to SM by me & SM is trying to track it down.

As far as V4, the fact that the ExP batch file isn't showing up isn't a Poser issue - it's a V4 issue.

The batch file should be at this location:

Runtime/libraries/!DAZ/DzCreateExPFiles-V4.bat (or .cmd if on a Mac)

My suggestion:

Make a temp folder on your desktop (Call it V4).  Install V4 base in it. During installation, it should make an Update Victoria 4.2 base alias on your desk top.  That is a symbolic link to the batch file in the !DAZ folder.  Install each of your figure morph sets to it and run the batch file after each installation that requires it.

Once you have done this, zip the runtime folder up into a zip.  Now put the zip with the rest of your zip downloads - the next time you need to reinstall V4, you won't actually have to deal with the ExP nonsense.

Move the runtime on your desktop to the file directory of your choice.

Hurray!  That worked.  Thank you!

Glad I could help.

RHaseltine ( ) posted Sat, 20 July 2013 at 9:46 AM

Strictly, you don't need to run the updater until you are done installing - all it does is make a list of the morph files installed in a form that Poser can read, so only the final list matters.

hborre ( ) posted Sat, 20 July 2013 at 12:09 PM

But you still need to run the updater every time you install a new morph package.

Oh, really?  Okay, I've just learned something ELSE that's news to me.  Thank you!

Yes, any time new morphs have been added since you last ran the utility it needs to be run so it can add them to the list - and it needs to be run on the complete folder, if you are using ssgbryan system - so you'd unzip to a blank folder, add the new morphs, run the updater, and zip that up again for archiving. (That is, if the morph set describes itself as an ExP expansion set or says the updater is needed - the figures do still have blank channels that can be used by custom morphs, the way V3 etc. did, and those don't need the updater since they aren't adding new files to that system.)
