Subject: Poser Render Help...

Chaosophia ( ) posted Tue, 01 October 2013 at 5:35 PM · edited Sat, 09 November 2024 at 4:44 AM

Ok I have a scene set up it basically is Perfect V4, with a dynamic article of clothing with the sss shaders of DM's Lyon Hela Hair, I13's IDL studio Base setup, rendered in aspect of 1500x3000 300 ppi. Render Settings 5 raytrace bounces, pix sample 5, min shade rate .2 , sss IDL checked IDL quality 4, 32 bucket size.

I tried this on my dino computer and it only gets up to after the sss calculations, then stops rendering, figured it was a memory issue, but today I installed poser 10 to my kids gaming computer which is more than capable of running Poser and had the same results, anyone know what is causing this and ways to avoid this so I can get a render to finish properly.

I have had luck with getting renders with the sss shaders but with IDL not at all.

Thanks in advance for your time and imput.

try turning off light emiter on the hair.  also P10 is still 32 bit so you still have the same memory restrictions.

5 raytrace bounces? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Do you have lots of reflections going on?
5 is way overkill for normal scenes, unless you have a ton of mirrors all reflecting on one another.

Start with 1 (one) RB
When you have a mirror, or a glass, or reflections from glass to mirror to glass and another mirror, use 2.

When you hover the mouse over the selection raytrace bounces field, some sugestions become visible in the help field lower in the same screen.

Pixel samples is OK at 5. I use 3 for draft, and also 5 for quality.
But R-Bounces should be 1 to 2 max!!

Vilters: I was basing the Raytracing based on the tutorial from the IDL Studio Base from I13 that came with the product. It mentioned that the bounces give it a brighter image. I usually use 1 on my RT Bounce, normally, and I am new to IDL completely, using Poser 7 for so long, so I figured that maybe that had something to do with the setup or something.

Willyb: The tip you mentioned worked like a charm, thanks, I guess the hair had too many points to assure IDL would work properly, as an emmiter, I would have never guessed that at all. Thank you so much.
