Subject: Can someone help with Illustrator?

Hi guys, I need some help with illustrator.

what I'm doing is trying to make a engine gasket template. The steps I'm taking is scanning a gasket I cut out at 300 dpi as a b/w photo on a Canon MX410, then from there I either open it in photoshop and darken it or open it up in directly in Illustrator and live trace it (tried several different settings), so I have a vector (I want outlines instead of a photo copy). The problem is when I go to print the image it is always around 3mm to long. The rest of it will line up perfectly if I move the gasket around over the printout. The width is perfect, the holes are perfect just the length is always off. I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. Does anyone have a tip for me to get this right?
Thanks

I had a quick look and maybe the above document will have some useful information?

I'm by no means an expert in Illustrator, but one thing that also comes to mind is that there might be some kind of perspective distortion. Is the photo reference a straight on shot or is there a touch of perspective? Could that be throwing things off in  the Live Trace feature?   Would it be better to draw out the vector instead using the Perspective tool if needed?

Another option would be to set up a persepctive grid as needed then select your vector and drag it on to the grid.  Use the perspective resize tool to adjust as needed to match your photo reference.

If all else fails, you could post a question on the Adobe Forums. They're usually really helpful there. ( From the main Adobe site, select the "Support & Leaning" Menu and then click on "Forums".)

Good luck!

It's probably a perspective effect - do you have access to a scanner? scanning it directly, rather than suing a photograph, might work better (you can put an extra piece of glass on the scan bed to protect it).

Forum is a good way to help each other but if you want to learn and discover your designing abilities then you have to work under supervision. I Suggest you to below link for learn with expert.
