Subject: Feedback on Reality Paint/Blacksmith3d?

I see reality Paint pro on sale this weekend for 65% off.  Thats a pretty steep discount!

Can anyone speak to its utility compared to other software that can perform similar tasks?

Listening intently.

I had been eyeballing Blacksmith for a very long time.  I finally looked at the demo closer and bought last week.  I love the toolset.  I love the interface, but it took me a few hours to get my head around it.  I'm very happy with it so far, speaking as a hobbyist.  Haven't used it enough yet to cast any sweeping judgements.

Over the last ten years I've seen more than one good merchant say they used Blacksmith for their work.  That's encouraging.  I love the fact that Dave (I think that's his name?) is constantly working on it and that it's been around for a long time.  It's not some new flash-in-the-pan.  It's an old product that has been continuously improved.

It looks like a bargain to me at seventy bucks for the pro version.  I bought the 'standard' version last week for $100 and I'm very happy so far.  It's a fun product to work with, and that's the whole point of this hobby for me.

Hi

I've had Blacksmith 3D Suite for a long time, and upgraded a while back to version 3.3.

I like it, it's a little confusing to use, and I think that the interface could be a little more conventional than it is.  I don't use it a lot so it's not as easy for me to use as say, Photoshop.

For the most part what I do is use it to create a texture with everything in the correct place.

You know how what appears to be a straight line on the figure looks like a wavy line on the template etc, this takes care of that.

Then I export the flattened texture, open it in Photoshop to do all the detail work, but you could do it all in Blacksmith if you want to.

The morphing tools work well, I haven't done a lot with it but I have had some success using them.

Again: I'd have done the interface so that it seemed more logical, but that's my thing.

I've spent 50+ years as a designer trying to make things readable and easy to understand, I'd like to give Micorsoft some advice too!

I like a step one step two kind of process. LOL

Anyway I would recommend the software to anyone really serious about making their own textures.

Thanks for the heads up.

I've been eying it for quite some time now, so this special sale really seems to be a great opportunity, to finally snag it!

... tho, I always get confused about it .. is it Blacksmith3D now? Reality Paint? or Blacksmith3D again? LOL .. ;)

. . . the dev said that he ran in to a company naming issue and so had to change it back to Blacksmith.  I can relate to that problem.  My company had to wrestle with that issue as well a long time ago.  lol.

So, somebody trademarked Reality? Looking around the world, it seems reality has been taken off the market .
